Hello! I hope someone could help me with this.

My daughter is born on 2011 in the Philippines and my husband is a PR at that time. 2016, my husband became Citizen. Long story short, someone advised us that our daughter is a citizen, through what he called as conveying citizenship. I never heard this before and searched about it but nothing came.

We followed the advise and applied for proof of citizenship last may 2016. July 2016, i checked ecas and found that it is in process, saying that they have received the application. Until now there is no update and its been 7 months already. I understand that the processing time is 5 months plus 6 to 8 months since the child is not in canada or us.

My question is, are we wasting time on this application? Should we just apply a sponsorship for her since that is a lot faster than the certificate and also, i am still not convinced that she is a citizen. Is there any number to call for this query? Please enlighten me. Thank you.

Unfortunately you were badly advised.

Your daughter is not a citizen. She would only be a citizen if your husband had become a citizen before her birth.

I really do not know why we heed this advice. Probably because we are desperate for her to be in Canada and to be with her father, as I am not in the Philippines as well and working in the Middle East. Thanks for your reply. At least I can let go all of my false hope now.
