I'm new here, go easy on me ;D

I started to grow concerned on my application when my work permit was refused renewal without a LMIA and advised to wait until it expires and then renew it, even though their website stated clearly that I could renew my work permit.
To give you a little bit of background, my application was inland and applied through a dependent category under family class back in 2011 but now I am working while it's being processed.

The status right now is in progress but it's been like that for over 5 months almost 6 months and still nothing; I fear that I will lose my job if it does not come before my work permit expires as they claim that it may take up to 3 months for my restoration to be completed and it is not guaranteed that I will be granted approval for a work permit extension. On the other hand, I can wait under implied status but without a job, I can't do much as my job is nowhere in the 6 figures.

Do you guys know if there are any other options? Also, I just can't go back to Venezuela due to its socioeconomic state.

Is it just me that it is taking so long?

Can you provide a bit more background?

What sort of application is it? Are you a dependent in a parent sponsorship application? More specifically, are your parents being sponsored for PR through family class and you are included as their dependent child in the application?

How did you obtain your original work permit?

In that case you can only renew / extend your work permit if you have an approved LMIA. You don't qualify for an open work permit based on being a dependent in a parent sponsorship application (FYI - there's no inland stream for parent sponsorship applications, only outland). The only people who qualify for open work permits through a family class applications are individuals who have been sponsored inland through the spousal / common law sponsorship stream.

Before your work permit expires, you'll need to apply to change your status to visitor so that you can remain in Canada. Once your work permit expires, you will need to stop working immediately.

So work permit is only allowed for other streams? Has anyone had experience doing restorations?

I know that I can still stay under implied status but I want to be able to work, is there not a way to renew my work permit earlier?

TIA

The open work permit is only available to people being sponsored for PR by a Canadian spouse or common law partner. So unfortunately you don't qualify.

To extend your work permit, you need an approved LMIA from your employer. That's the only option available to you.
