Hi all,

This might seem as a stupid question, but I'm sooo nervous about my sponsorship application, almost done and are going to send it on Friday! I just read in the forum that you shouldn't use staples. I've done that on the documents that is more than one page.

What to do know? The documents will not look nice if I remove them, but start all over again and print new forms just because of staples!?

Is it really a rule or just a recommendation? Anyone with experience?

Not using staples is in the instructions / guide. Having said that - they won't return your application for using staples. You'll probably just end up irritating the immigration officer working on your file because he/she will have to remove each one of them.

They will remove them because the pages have to be separated and ordered according to internal procedures, hence the recommendation not to staple things.

Staple removers can be fairly neat. Just a suggestion.

Thanks, I've made my choice! I'll remove them as neat as possible, no meaning of irritating an immigration officer!

I remember when I applied for student visa back in 1999, I had like 20 clips all with different paperwork and when I handed it over to the cleark at the window, he took like 10 secs to just remove every piece and just put the whole chunk in their own binder
I was like, I spend so long doing that and this guy destroyed it within seconds ;)

Definitely remove the staples!

Use small paperclips instead. Some of the instruction guides specifically state paperclips are ok.

DOH! Sent my inland PR app off yesterday chalk full of staples. I suppose I read that you staple your photos to the Sched Background A sheet and assumed staples were okay. Dang. Given the number of instructions and things to track down, I lost this small detail along the way.

You're sure they don't return them or throw them out? EEEEEEK!

I am curious too. Nowhere in the IMM 3900 and IMM 3999 guides does it have any mention of staples, or paper clips.

On my country specific guide it said keep documents and photos loose, and in brackets it says paper clips may be used to organize multi page forms.

My country specific only says this:
"Assemble all your documents as listed. Check (*checkmark picture*) each applicable item on the list and attach the list to your documents (a paper clip will do). Send originals of the immigration forms (items 1 to 5 below) and police certificates. Send photocopies of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise. If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized (certified) translation with a copy of the originals."

Looks like South Easy Asia is not as strict with the staple / paper clip thing. The fact it says 'a paper clip will do' implies you can use other methods to attach it too, such as a staple if you want to.

I did use staples too for multiple pages as the only thing I remembered reading was keeping photos loose. I think it's so automatic to use staples for several pages so if it's such a turn off for the immigration officer they should put that in bold large letters at the top of the guide!

When the file comes to CIC, a lot of it is scanned, and reorganised in different sections relevant to CIC. So if you put staples, somebody has to take them out... it's a loss of time, but it doesn't make your file illegal or not good or anything - it just takes more time to process it. Same goes with extra plastic folder, paperclips, binders, tags etc etc..
