Does it matter if I haven't done IELTS if I'm admitted by McGill university? Will I face a problem with the visa?

Hi,
I think, It's upto College or uni so some of students who have done their study in an English country may get exemption from College or Uni, they could be from anywhere

A friend of mine in McGill applied without IELTS but He had given TOEFL iBT and still he got the visa. For university students, there's not much problem it seems. But then, you never know how the VO takes it. So I gave IELTS still :)

Not written TOEFL either but my 12th english board exam was written in the british council. It's a killer paper, same one british citizens take inside the UK. Paper was made and marked by Cambridge University. Got like 78% there so mcgill waived my english req. Will this suffice for the visa requirement?

Write an explanation letter to the Visa officer and explain him that the IELTS required was waived by McGill as you studied Cambridge board. Also write down for how long you have studying english language and why you were exempted if there is anything else to write...the VO will judge your english by the letter that you write...

I think that would work. As mentioned by dbss, Mention in your letter about the exam you had given and that McGill waived off your Eng requirements. Also, if you can get a letter from your prof in previous university affirming that your previous education was in english and your english language capabilities are beyond just satisfactory, it may add some weight. My university also did not ask for IELTS as I am going to a French institution. But I still gave IELTS as I thought that its really gonna be shameful if the visa is rejected just because of a lame English test.

Thanks. I'll try that.
