Hello I've just returned to Canada after spending a necessary 6 months in Australia waiting for my PR to be processed. Now that i have returned i have the very un welcome news that my girlfriend who is my sponsor has been cheating on me while i was away. I am very confused about what my rights and obligations are? I don't want to move back to Aus as i have a lot of friends and support here but i am unsure if i can stay in this relationship for 2 years. Before i had to go back to Australia we had lived together for 3 years.

If you are breaking up with her, you would both be obligated to notify immigration and your application would be cancelled because if you are no longer together, you can not be sponsored under family class.

If you are not breaking up with her, you are not under the obligation to do anything. Your application would go forward and you would get your PR.

If you were together for more than 2 years before you applied for sponsorship, you will not have condition 51 on your PR so if you break up with her at some point after getting PR, you would keep it.

However, if you have condition 51 on your PR, you would have to co-habit with her for at least 2 years after landing as a PR, otherwise you could lose it.

Sorry I should have stated I have returned on my PR but I have not received my PR card yet. So it has been approved.we did live together for over 2 years before applying so that means I get to keep it right? Am I still obligated to notify immigration?

Does your COPR (landing papers) say that you have condition 51 on it?

What Leon said. All that matters is what's on your CORP. If you have no conditions - you're fine and your PR is yours to keep regardless of what happens to your relationship.
