Hi,

Dear friend,

I got Medical request on 8th Nov and did Medicals on 27th Nov and all my documents reached CHC on 1st Dec. Medical reports reached CHC on 7th Dec. Waiting for visa and Passport.

I have some doubts,

I have relative and friends in Ontario and Toronto and I have few friends in Alberta also.I had discussed with them about landing and settlement either in Toronto or Alberta but I didn't get a clear picture. Toronto people are against Alberta and vice versa.

My back ground is

I am from India

I did my M.B.A I have experience in both Marketing and Finance. In short I don't have any regulated occupation.I had qualified 7.5 bands in IELTS.

My wife is doing Medical Transcription course as per the suggestion by my friends which will help us to earn income which meets basic necessities.

I have son who is 3 years old.

Doubts:

Should I do any courses(Online) related to Finance or Marketing from India before we land in Canada?

Should I write IELTS?

Toronto/Aberta which is the best as per my situation. I am ready to do survival jobs initially and would like to do some courses for future eg., Financial Adviser etc

I am planning to opt Etihad/Emirates via Dubai/Abudabhi for landing. Is there any better suggestion.

Should Medical Transcription in Canada is prospective?

Expecting your opinion in this matter.'

Thanks in advance

Please find my comments in 'Blue' against your concerns. Hope it helps.

Hi,

Dear friend,

I got Medical request on 8th Nov and did Medicals on 27th Nov and all my documents reached CHC on 1st Dec. Medical reports reached CHC on 7th Dec. Waiting for visa and Passport. Can you please specify when did you started your application process? Looking at the trends, how soon to get your passport request(PPR), Visa etc after medicals is based on when you started your application process and the date of your submission of complete documents. These application start date categories can be broadly classified as - Pre Feb 2008, Pre June 2010, Pre June 2011, Post June 2011 etc

I have some doubts,

I have relative and friends in Ontario and Toronto and I have few friends in Alberta also.I had discussed with them about landing and settlement either in Toronto or Alberta but I didn't get a clear picture. Toronto people are against Alberta and vice versa. Different people will have different perceptions and perspectives about the same thing. There are pros and cons for everything. Consider your priorities. My suggestion would be to value the opinion of your friend / relative in Canada whom you can relate the most in terms of your background and nature.

If you can do an online course from Canada, it will be better unless you manage to get all your Indian education credentials recognized in Canada. ( Check www.credentials.gc.ca) At this point, my suggestion is to be specific about what you want to do in future - marketing or finance - and do further course on that subject. Canadians are very specific about their professions - what ever it be! You know other trades too...good, it will come handy in future. But, you can't be master of all trades initially or they will grade you not fit for a specialist job. When you start off, a job in your area of specialization may not come easy for lack of two main reasons - Canadian Experience and Canadian Qualification. You can overcome this by taking up survival / volunteer jobs related to your area of specialization, through networking , affiliations / memberships in organizations of your trade(while some are mandatory, some are good networking opportunities) and continuing education.

Should I write IELTS? Did you not mention that you qualified 7.5 bands in IELTS? 7.5 band will give you sufficient points for your first official language. Who is the primary applicant here - you or wife?

Toronto/Aberta which is the best as per my situation. I am ready to do survival jobs initially and would like to do some courses for future eg., Financial Adviser etc

I am planning to opt Etihad/Emirates via Dubai/Abudabhi for landing. Is there any better suggestion. If financial aspects are not a concern, better take direct flights since you are travelling with a 3 year old. Or else, stop overs can reduce your travel costs significantly and increase your travel time.

Should Medical Transcription in Canada is prospective? Please check the link below:

http://www23.hrsdc.gc.ca/occupationsummarydetail.jsp?&tid=23

Expecting your opinion in this matter.'

Thanks in advance

Dear Ask,

Thanks for the detailed information and the link was really helpful

I had checked the possibilities of MT provincial wise and came to a conclusion that Ontario and Alberta is having better wages and bit more opportunities....

I had applied in April 2010.

My File transfer date is June-15,2010

IELTS band-7.5

2nd AOR-Sept-2010

In Process-Feb-13,2010

Medical Request- 08th November,2012

Medicals done-27th November,2012

Passports and other documents reached NDVO on 1st Dec,13

Medicals reached NDVO on 7th December,2012

Waiting for visa and landing papers with passports

Thanks for your suggestion.
Once I get visa I will discuss with my friends and as per the situation I will opt my landing place.

One of my friend is here in Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala,India who is vacation and will be back to Edmonton on 8th Jan. Today I met him.

He is an Qualified Engineer. Landed in 2008 in Toronto tried his luck in Toronto,Calgary,BC and Edmonton and finally settled in Edmonton.

As per his opinion a new immigrant should not land in Toronto and plan for Alberta as job openings are more and competition is less when compared with Toronto.

Not yet decided. First let me get maple leaf stamping...........

I am the Principal applicant.

My IELTS was GT and it got expired already. For further studies IELTS academic is required? If I can write IELTS before I leave India.

I am from "Gods own country".I live in Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala,India. I had checked with almost all airlines and finally shortlisted Emirates/Etihad.

Really the suggestion and advice is really valuable.

Thanks a lot

Thanks for your time and detailed reply. Just to keep it short, where to live in Canada would be based on various factors like your profession(read Job opportunities for you, payment per hour etc), your child's education(if you have any preferred school), spouse's job opportunity, whether you like to live in a fast paced city atmosphere or in a bit calm and quite place, overall cost of living, etc etc...the list can be endless.

Your friend might have tried something and may have ended up liking something else which is his choice. You are unique and your set of priorities and choices will be different from his. If you know this friend personally and can relate yourself to him, go ahead and consider his advice seriously. Certain universal principles are applicable here too - bigger the cities, greater are competition in job and also the opportunities to grow, develop & prosper!

Emirates have some promotion going on till Jan 10, 2013 for all sectors they are flying. You can travel till June 2013 with the tickets purchased during the promotion period.(Disclaimer: I am not sure if this promotion applies to your region of residence)

A valid IELTS score might be required for doing further education once you are there. Also, please check what type of IELTS are they asking for before you appear for IELTS again(there are two types of IELTS assessment). The rates for doing IELTS may not be standard, but does not vary substantially.

I have read your post in another thread that I am following. In response to it - Yes, as per my observation, CIC is prioritizing the applications based on MI-1, MI-2 and MI-3. Some MI-3 applicants got their visa within one month after doing medicals(medicals in Oct, Visa in Nov, Landed in Dec 2012). MI-1 applicants are put to wait here too.

In fact, the way Passport Requests are made have also varied from one VO to another. I can see that many NDVO applicants received their Passport Request along with their Medical Request where as for London VO, many MI-1 applicants were asked to update their documents initially, followed by medicals. Some got their medical requests and document update requests together. For many MI-1 applicants, even after completing 2 months from doing medicals, Passport Requests have not come.

I wish you all the best in the rest of your Canadian journey.

my 5 days experience in Canada. I would first like to express my heartfelt thanks for all.
i want to share my landing experience.

I stayed in a hotel in UK on 29th dec night and started @ 6.00 am on 30th dec from hotel which is beside
Gatwick airport, UK. my flight was @ 9:45 am (uk time). after checked-in my flight was delayed by 40 minutes.
it started @ 10.20 am to Toronto. it was very congested/uncomfortable. Horrible journey with infant.
in flight they gave all of us disembarkation form to fill.we Reached YYZ airport @ 1.20 pm (Toronto time).
when we entered airport in Canada, they greeted! "welcome to Canada" and checked passports of all passengers.
We followed the crowed straight away.
then we entered immigration section after a long walk. asked us to q and send us to counter 21.
he checked the disembarkation form and passports
and entered something in the system. i showed COPR, but he told me that his job is to enter the disembarkation form details
only.he stamped on the disembarkation form and asked us to go to immigration section where they do some paper work.
most of them in our flight are NOT new immigrants. here all the counters are empty ie no new immigrants.
all the immigration officers(IOs) are chit chatting each other from counter to counter. one of the IO called me and asked me to drop
passports, COPR and local address, and asked us to sit in a seating area. he told me that he has to do some
paper work on my file.
we seated in the seating area and i was playing with my infant.we were acting as we are very active by smiling
and laughing. as i saw cameras are there in seating area. there is a photo room beside us.
one of the IO's brought 2 immigrants and asked them to seat and took a photograph. i do not know why he took those ?
couple of immigrants beside me are sitting very nervous and tired.
after 15 to 20 mts IO called us and asked, do you have any other children apart from listed in application/COPR ?
i said "no, i have only one son who is listed in the application form. apart from that i do not have any other
children" with little bit of smile and eye to eye contact and with NO one line answer.
he asked me to sign the COPR and asked me to sign my infant COPR as well. also asked my spouse to sign her COPR.

then he greeted! "welcome to Canada, now u r permanent residence of Canada". i thanked him. he told us our pr cards
will reach with in 6 weeks to the given address and asked us to go to another section.

in another section they gave me all the Bouchers for applying SIN no, register in a hospital, new immigration
information, a 2013 year diary and child care benefit application. + one nice bag with black & blue colour.
** they told that we are eligible for child care benefits. in Ontario province if our (applicant+spouse)
income < $CAD 42k then we are eligible to claim benefits from government.

from there we stared to collect baggage. a porter was asking do you need any help. i said no thanks. i do not have
change to take a trolley. we need to insert $CAD 2.00. beside the trolleys a women was sitting and providing
the change for trolleys. i think her job is to provide change whoever does not have one. i took a trolley and
collected our baggage.

next we went to customs department in lane 1 along with baggage. no passengers were there. we were waiting to be called by customs
officer. i heard a voice "please come" but i was bit confused who called me. again officer opposite to me
called please come. i hand over disembarkation form, B4 and B4A goods to follow forms, passports and COPR to the officer.
at that time my son was crying. he asked me do you have total. i could not hear properly. i said yes. he asked me how much
is the total of all the goods. i said sorry i have not calculated total. so there were 2 answers!!!!!
he started asking more questions like what were you doing ? where did u come from ? what is u r job ? etc.etc.
he asked me is any one waiting out side. i said "no. no one is going to receive me". he asked me to fill a form.
i filled it and hand over him. he asked for proof of funds. i gave him my DD and said i have the remaining cash.
he entered on the form and calculated. in the mean while officers inside a room entered all the items & values on the form into the
system. officer stamped them and gave those to me. i handed over photographs of jewellery even he did not asked. he said that
he forgot to ask us. he scanned and took a photocopy and stamped on back side of the originals and handed me.
i was speaking friendly to him and asked few questions. he told me i will be very well organised and also said
if the item price is >$CAD 800 then we have to pay the tax unless it is not listed on the goods to follow list.

last he asked me any more questions. i said that's all. then he asked us to leave from one of exists. the time was 3:15 pm.
No one asked me to open bags or scanned bags.
almost 2 hrs after landing. we were bit slow due to infant crying.

u guys do not need to worry. landing procedures are very simple. they do not ask my documents except copr and passport.
i suggest to bring a pen with u which should be in u r pocket. there will be lot of problem in finding a pen.

i was waiting for my brother to pick us, but his flight was delayed by 5 hrs. he has to come from usa. we waited in airport
untill 6:30 pm. its a horrible situation. no sleep, tired, hungry, infant, weather, etc... food items in airport are too expensive.

we took a rental car which is $53 per day and went to the hotel. my brother's friend in Canada (as we gave address for our PR cards) is
not picking up his mobile and landline.!!!!!!!!!

weather is 3 to -6 degrees. there was a snow fall. uk weather was 8 to 11 degree centigrade.
beside hotel there is walmart which is expensive compared to uk. products are displayed without tax.
if we buy the product then they put + 13% tax and sell us. i do not know about other stores.

we went to Niagara water falls. *** be planned before driving. there are few roads which says like 407 ETR. ETR means electronic toll.
if we pass in those ways, the number plat is scanned and they send toll bills to owner of the car.
so i suggest you to take a map and point out the ways where there is not ETR roads if any one drives.

applied for a SIN which took 15 mts. while applying SIN they will ask u r mother's surname at the time of birth, which will
be the security question, if you contact service Canada in future. docx needed are landing paper and passport. SIN cards will be posted to the
given address within 10 working days.

applied a bank account.*** here be careful i went to RBC bank. he told me this bank does not charge for new comers
up to 6 months. but they will try to offer some packages which charge monthly. so plz check every thing before u apply a bank account.
i gave uk address while applying bank account in RBC.

i tried to register in health, but they said i m too early. they required address proof such as utility bill or bank statement, etc...
which i don't.

Everything was good. Canada flat address appears on ecase. Again back to uk on 4th jan. hope to leave uk within few months.

Thanks for reading patiently.

my 5 days experience in Canada.

We followed the crowed straight away.
then we entered immigration section after a long walk. asked us to q and send us to counter 21.
he checked the disembarkation form and passports
and entered something in the system. i showed COPR, but he told me that his job is to enter the disembarkation

form details
only.he stamped on the disembarkation form and asked us to go to immigration section where they do some paper work.
most of them in our flight are NOT new immigrants. here all the counters are empty ie no new immigrants.
all the immigration officers(IOs) are chit chatting each other from counter to counter. one of the IO called me and asked me to drop
passports, COPR and local address, and asked us to sit in a seating area. he told me that he has to do some
paper work on my file.
we seated in the seating area and i was playing with my infant.we were acting as we are very active by smiling
and laughing. as i saw cameras are there in seating area. there is a photo room beside us.
one of the IO's brought 2 immigrants and asked them to seat and took a photograph. i do not know why he took those ?
couple of immigrants beside me are sitting very nervous and tired.
after 15 to 20 mts IO called us and asked, do you have any other children apart from listed in application/COPR ?
i said "no, i have only one son who is listed in the application form. apart from that i do not have any other
children" with little bit of smile and eye to eye contact and with NO one line answer.
he asked me to sign the COPR and asked me to sign my infant COPR as well. also asked my spouse to sign her COPR.

then he greeted!

Thank God for your safe landing, may canada be fruitful to you and family.

Hi Ask,

Thanks for the suggestion. Its really valuable.

I do agree with you that ===============My first priority is Ontario and second is Alberta.

No definitely not...my friend is basically an engineer and he is an IISC's product and the reputation of the institution is remarkable.Second friend is a lawyer but not entered into that profession even after 4 years of landing. Third one is into IT,still struggling in Toronto again B.Tech. So education, expereince, interest, aptitude does matter.

How can I rely on CHC and book my flight ticket? High riskkk

Exactly,as you may read already in other forum 3 applicants completed medicals got their e-cas status updated to decision made and the score is MI-3>2,MI-2-1,MI-0.

My long term plan is to study CGA and qualify.Planning to contact the board for further study advice.

I wrote IELTS(GT) two times. I am planning to attempt for Academic before I leave India so that I can pursue for further studies in Canada.

Thanks a lot friend
