Could this additional work load be contributing the slow down at the Mexico VO ?

Mexico drug war forcing Canadian Mennonites to flee

An estimated 5,000 of the more than 70,000 Mexican Mennonites of Canadian origin have left the country in the past few years as the drug war has escalated, said John Janzen of the Mennonite Central Committee, a national organization for the community.

"While traditionally these residents in Mexico have not sought emergency consular assistance, we have seen a greater inclination to request assistance in recent months," says a June 2010 document from the Department of Foreign Affairs, which was obtained by Postmedia News under an access-to-information request.

I had no idea about this. Very sad situation. Thanks for sharing this Huron.

Came across this article in another thread - makes reference to VO's slowing down with tourist visa applications in the summer. Although the article is focusing on New Delhi VO; I expect the same issues apply to Mexico. And, if the VO is also dealing with a mass exodus of Mennonites, I guess that would explain a lot!

I'm starting 2 think all mexicans need an interview reading these posts. (if you've experienced otherwise I'd love to hear)
My question is: is the only place for interviews in Mexico city? My bf and I live in Jalisco and I'm wondering if this is done in Guadalajara?

No not all Mexicans need interviews for PR applications. Interviews (and anything related to Family class PR ) is only done at the Embassy in Mexico city. The consulate in GDL really does not doe that much. (all the TVR Applications are sent to Mexico DF, all Canadian Citizen passport apps are alos sent to Mexico DF Embassy)

None of these applicants from Mexico needed an interview. NAFTA.couple KDR La_Ardilla Bonbon Canda Jendrain. It all depends on how strong your application is.

This post is more than a year old and the person has not logged on in a year so I do not think they will answer you

Huron, thanks so much... even though it still doesn't change the fact that we might have to travel to Mexico City for the interview, it at least gives me a tiny bit of hope that it's possible to just be approved w/o it. Thanks :D

We are first just applying for his TRV as we are waiting for his divorce to be finalized so that we can apply for PR. Actually, it sounds easier said then done. As after the divorce is final than we have to live together for 12 months in order to be considered commonlaw, THEN apply. So I am living in Mexico w/ him trying to get all this done. We are applying for TRV hopefully this week. However, may run into some problems as we just opened up our joint bank acct, and I'm going to deposit all the money in there this week and just print the stuff online. Before this, we did not have a record of his income as he is a waiter and gets paid in cash by the company, and tips of course by the customers... Hopefully they will accept this. =) as all we had previously was my personal bank account.

Eek! I'm excited. Thanks so much again!

Well, It is July NOW, let's hope this is the month for all of us that have been waiting for the AOR for more than 1.5 - 3 months.

I read your posts, VO slowing down due to Tourist Visas and stuff like that. It is possible, unfair as I stated, but possible. Actually I remember some other cases from last years of Mexican Spouses that waited thru summer and then magically after it was over, got processed in two months or so.

Besides, out of all those cases, none needed an interview. Interviews are only requested when they find something fishy or suspicious.

You know ladies and gents, just go for the TRV, follow what I have been suggesting since page 52. My wife and I spent a great and beautiful Canada Day together, it was worth to document with pages and pages that we wanted to share summer together. Use your Sponsorship Approval Letter, prepare thorough Invitation Letters, if your Mexican Spouse works make sure he/she gets a Employment Letter.
Attach Pay Slips, Sponsor's Proof of Employment and Income, etc.
The Visa took 9 days to be processed and when she enter this beutiful country, they wera as always friendly and welcoming. Do not be afraid anymore, we are closer than ever ...

Just find the way in your MIND and HEARTS, Shall it come true.
FEAR IS THE WEAKNESS.

All the best, July is the MONTH Ladies and Gents.
D.

Agreed! Fear and overanalyzing kept us from applying for a TRV and I wish now that we had at least tried. Oh well, live and learn. I am POSITIVE that JULY is the magic month !!!!

It will be July! I know it!

Today, we received the passport back with the visa in it! Yay!

The turn-around time for sending the passport via UPS from Canada (if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation very soon) was:
June 6th the passport arrived at the embassy
June 29th the passport began its return to Canada, but the date on the letter included was June 15th

If anyone is interested, there is a good book about Mennonites in Chihuahua - Irma Voth, by Miriam Toews, it touches a little on the drug problems in the state, but it is not the focal point of the book (and again its fiction). She is a Winnipeg author and I am a big fan of her books, but they may not be for everyone. Something to pass the time....

Wow, it must feel so good to have that visa in hand...congrats!!!

I love Miriam Toews - A Complicated Kindness is one of my faves. Will definitely check out Irma Voth.

Does your eCas say Decision Made yet? I really don't know why I check the silly thing every day even though it is never updated. Eternally optimistic I suppose LOL

I checked my Purolator tracking number today to see if our RPRF receipt arrived safely, and it was signed for at reception earlier today :) I'm not sure if we were supposed to send it to the office in Mississauga, but we covered all of our bases just in case. We sent it to the two addresses we had for the Mexico City office as well as to their email, and then we couriered it and faxed it to the processing centre in Mississauga. They can't say they didn't get it ... five times, lol. How long does it usually take for them to process that? And if they asked for it, that means it's a yes right? Because they wouldn't have asked for it if it was a no ... riiiiiight? (*crosses fingers*)

Yes, it does say decision made but it only changed about a week and a half ago! There is a definite delay, nothing in real time. We did get a phantom e-cas tracker e-mail saying something had changed on e-cas on Thursday. Nothing had changed, it was one of those behind the scenes changes that coincided with the return of the passport.

Your passport request is imminent, soon the wait will be over! Have you heard anything from your MP?

I was expecting some smiley faces or exclamation points or something on the letter that they send with the passport, but it was pretty straightforward and dry, oh well.
