If they just approved your sponsorship you will have a few months before it reaches the VO. Ours was approved on Sep 11th and we have not received an AOR from the embassy of yet. Some people here have received on in a month and others in 3 months. The letter indicating the 6 month wait is from the VO, so far most people have had to wait 5 to 6 months before a PPR request after recieving a AOR from the VO.

"The letter indicating the 6 month wait is from the VO" - this means?

When you receive the AOR from Mexico City it states that the average processing for is 6 month for simple cases. Obviously more complicated or incomplete applications will take longer.

From the RMCP website If you are OUTSIDE OF CANADA :

contact the nearest police force which offers fingerprinting services. The RCMP will accept fingerprint forms from foreign countries that contain the following:

rolled and flat impressions of all ten fingers taken with black ink
full name, date of birth and sex of the applicant
the name and address of the police agency
the signature of the official taking the fingerprints

Check it out http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm It guides you step by step on how to get them and all the information you have to mail.
Thank you!!' i have got all the info i need now!

It means 6 months is the avg processing time for Mexico city from the date they recieve your application from Mississauga. It can be a lot faster then this.. as fast as 1.5 to 3 months.. or it can be a lot slower, exceeding 6 months. It all depends on the case. If the case is relatively simple, the applicant has no previous immigration issues (specifically with Canada), no criminal record, and they are satisfied with the proof you provide that the relationship is genuine, then it can be very fast.

You have to remember that anything that goes wrong can add a lot of wait time, no matter how insignificant the problem! In our case, they could not find my spouses medicals which made us wait another 1 1/2 months for our PPR. 1 month in immigration time is long :p lol. Anywho, I think OhCanadiana gave you good advice, this is a marathon, not a sprint. After you get AOR from mexico city you will find that things get pretty fast and contact is pretty regular. I know how hard it is to just sit and wait, and I wasn't even apart from my husband.. But the good news is, when its over you will forget all the waiting you had to do and how hard it was, and all of it will be worth it.. :)

Also, consider yourself super lucky, quite a few of us on here had to wait 3 months + just to get sponsorship approval from Mississauga!

Suerte!

it's ok, I think we all get confused by the abbreviations in the beginning ! Here is a short list of the ones I can think of off the top of my head:

AOR - Acknowledgment of receipt

VO - Visa office

PPR - Passport request

MIL - Mother in law

COPR - Confirmation of permanant residence

PR - Permanant residence

I am sure there is a few more, but my mind has gone blank ;)

AOR: Acknowledgement of Receipt
VO: Visa Office:
PPR: Passport Request

It´s hard at the beginning but you´ll get used to all the terminology.

A Question about receipt of medical - does the medical received show up after you get "in process" with the VO ? I am just curious because it still says nothing about our medical and its going to expire on the 2nd of February....

haaaaa...I think I may have the answer to this very good question. From what I learned the other day (I hope I'm right)...your medical is good as long as it has been received within the validity period...when they review it you will get a message online that says this "Medical results have been received."

We just received an E-mail(1 hour ago) from Mexico City requiring an SSP (security check) which we already ordered through that very same embassy, an Updated IMM5669 as they want history from the time my wife was 18 and not just the last 10 years in Section 8, along with another notarized consent letter from my step sons dad with a copy of his ID showing photograph and signature. This seems to be an AOR if I'm not mistaken. I'm happy, at least they got the file and they're looking at it.

I'm not exactly sure how to deal with the SSP request. Maybe I'll sent a copy of the e-mail they sent us saying they will order it for us?
