So its been a year and a few weeks, still haven't heard anything since SA a year ago. My husband and I are leaving on December 17th to Asia for 4 months and new Zealand for a year after on work visas. I was going to cancel my application a while ago, but someone suggested I wait it out, and I did. I could even keep waiting, but since his file is in LA, I'm assuming he'll get called for an interview that he won't be able to attend.

I'm wondering what the process is like...what if we're called into an interview and they know we're going traveling for 1.5 years, will they not pass him, and if he can't make the interview will they delay it, and will I get my money back after they try top set up an interview (we could use the extra money)

As always any advice is welcome

Unfortunately they won't hold or delay the application because you are away. If he's called for an interview and can't make it, they'll simply make a decision without the interview information which will most likely be a refusal. Only the Right of Permanent Residence fee (if you've paid it) will be returned if you fail to make the interview and the application is refused.

Also the expectation with any PR application, is both sponsor and applicant will settle in Canada pretty much immediately after the PR is approved. So if the visa office learns you will be traveling for next 1.5 years with no intention to return to Canada, your PR would most likely also be rejected just on that basis.

Seems best at this point to just cancel everything, and re-apply again later.

Perfect, thank you so much everyone. Just wanted a confirmation that it's the right decision.
