Hi All,

How much does the insurance cost for parents?
My father has hemophilia and he is 63. My mother is 59 and in good health.
I would like to know the approximate value

Thanks

You'll need to contact the insurance company to find out. Because your father has hemophilia, I think it's unlikely the normal rates will apply to him. I think you can expect to pay more.

Just to let you know guys some companies have increased their rates recently. So at the time of the application you can lock up the rate to make sure it wont increase again.

As Mr GoldenBrown from Arbetov Insurance has pointed out, the company that he was quoting above have increased their rates, so the $1317 rate he referred to for your father ( from GMS for $100,000 with a $1000 deductible) is now $1522.05, or $2206.97 with a $0 deductible (no longer $1907).

You can get a better quote from BestQuote Travel Insurance Agency:

https://www.bestquotetravelinsurance.ca/parent-and-grandparent-super-visa-health-insurance

BestQuote does offer the 'monthly payment' option that Arbetov has, but it comes at quite the 'financing' cost. You have to pay a couple months up front plus a nonrefundable fee of $50. Then, if you return home early, instead of basing the refund on the number of days left in the policy, they use "number of months - which could mean you pay an extra month for coverage and then don't get any of it refunded.

BestQuote has a few policies that Arbetov and the other price comparison websites don't have. Now that GMS has increased it's rates (March 1st 2015), it is no longer the company that would be advisable for your father (or mother). Visit BestQuote, fill in the quote request form and get the free instant quote showing you all the super visa options - you'll see the difference.

I do not sell monthly plans. I suggest you read the policy wording compared to other insurance plans offered, you will find it is more restrictive than many other plans. As far as cost you need to base the cost on an annual basis regardless of what payment plan you choose and you will find monthly plans have more expensive premiums. If someone needs a payment plan they can buy a policy and just pay off their credit card on a monthly basis without compromising the best coverage and basing their decision on monthly premium instead of an annual premium.

More problematic is monthly plans work differently than annual plans. Here is a live example I just dealt with a person purchased a monthly plan for a regular visitors visa, then they applied for a super visa within Canada and purchased another policy after their initial policy expires. They were rejected. Here is why in order to do this you need to provide coverage for one year their policy terminates in July 2015 and even though they included another insurance certificate from July 2015 to July 2016 it did not constitute a one year policy.

I am not suggesting that insurance agents are not competent but they really should refrain from making statements that are beyond the scope of the services they provide. I have not found any information on the CIC website that allows for monthly plans whereby a person pays for 60 days of coverage up front and not one year. If anyone can provide information from CIC to the contrary I would be very interested.

can you guys explain about the 2 years rule. what if I want my parents to live with me for long period. I understand that PR for parents is not open now?

so how you would deal the 2 years thing without leaving canada or may be travel to somewhere near canada and come back.. will that work?

Hi.

Travel Insurance for Visitors to Canada is to cover unexpected and sudden medical emergencies. Therefore, medical costs for that are covered (e.g. hospital fee, physician's fee, emergency transportation, and prescribed medication). Treatment for chronic diseases are usually excluded.

The premium for $100,000 plan will be $1,500-$2,000/year for a visitor of age 60 without any medical issue. However, since your father has hemophilia, you'd better contact insurance companies to figure out what options are available BEFORE applying for supervisa.
Don't jump onto cheap plans right away. Read each policy wording and compare what's covered and not. Lower premium means less coverage. Find the best plan for your parents. E-mail to info@biis.ca for more advise.

Cheers!
