Hi guys.. This is my first post after my file got transferred to Etobicoke office without AIP on Oct 18 2013. BTW My file was received on NOV 28 2012 at Vegreville..I received an interview letter from Etobicoke office on JAN 20 2014 along with a list of proofs they needed from me...The interview was scheduled for today Jan 30 2014 at 9:00 AM..I was not worried or nervous at all TBH..We got there around 8:00 AM. We waited for our names to be called, and around 9:20 AM I heard my name in a soft voice.. The officer was a lady and was very nice.. She took both of us(ME AND MY WIFE) to her office and asked for my Passport.. And believe me she only asked me 2 questions.. 1- Why my parents did not attend the marriage? and 2- How do you support yourself financially? She didn't even looked at the proofs they requested from us.. and she Just said "I am satisfied and I approve you in principle".. and I was like WTF?????????? I busted my butt off for every bit of proof and all those letters and sworn declarations from my family and friends.. why did they even asked for them if they didn't need them..But I was happy that atleast I have AIP now.. and then she wished us best of luck.. and we came home.. ;D

Congrats on passing the AIP interview. I have updated your status. I know it is a hassle to deal with it but it is what it is. You played it safe than sorry when it comes to providing proof of your relationship.

Look at it this way. Had you not bothered to bring in any proof of relationship, the agent may notice that and then deny your genuiness of your relationship. When the agent saw the papers you brought it, it shows that you made an effort to prove it which speaks volumes in their eyes. Actions speaks louder than words.

Keep that in mind and be happy that your 1st stage is over and done with. And now on to the last stage of getting DM.

I remember a post made somewhere about a couple brought in for questioning like you did. This couple brought in their extended family in with them in the lobby waiting. When the agent called them and saw the extended family waiting with them, the agent didn't bother to conduct the interview. Just said to them, you pass and gave them AIP on the spot.

Now that you gotten AIP, CIC will begin to process your OWP application. As for how long this part takes, I can't give you an number. Hopefully within a couple of weeks.

Click on "apply online" on right. It a red box on the right.

It is $150 to apply for OWP

I can't say so long you get DM after receiving medical. It is out of your hand. It can be a within a couple of weeks up to 8 months. No one can predict timing of second stage completion.

My spreadsheets are meant for those who applied in 2012 period. You may want to ask someone who is responsible for maintaining 2013 spreadsheets.

If I were you, I would go ahead and apply for it. It is a gamble in a sense that you could waste 150 for nothing if DM came sooner than you thought. But if you don't apply, yes you save yourself 150 bucks but you could be sitting on your arse for weeks and weeks waiting for DM. And even then you can't still work. You could wait up to 2 months after DM before you actually land. On top of that, depending on where you are landing, you may not able to get your SIN (this allows you to legally work) until you get your PR card in the mail.

So in short, I would apply for OWP.

The only reason my wife didn't apply for OWP is that we have kids at home and there is no point in spending the money if she isn't going to work while waiting for PR.

Nothing to worry about. Ecas are slow in updating your status. The email is more important than ecas updates.
