I sponsored my wife, Inland. Our application AOR was August 2013. We are about 1-2 months away from receiving AIP. Are you saying that it is possible for me to apply OHIP for her at this point, even though AIP has not been given.

BlackDisc
No, for inland applicants you need to wait until you have AIP. It's easy for inland applicants. You just take your AIP letter to Service Ontario after you've waited the three months and you're covered.

The process I described earlier in this thread is for outland applicants.

Do inland pnp applicants get the AIP (if yes, what is the current time?), or it just AOR (again, what is the current time?) can be used for applying OHIP card? Thank you.

Correct. In my wife's case CIC determined that she was eligible to apply for PR on November 22, 2013, so she became eligible for OHIP coverage 3 months later on Feb. 22, 2014. I'm assuming here that you can satisfy them that you meet the residency requirement. Are you in Ontario now?
Yes I am in ontario now. They requested more Info back on may 1st which I emailed right away also they requested to redo my fbi since it expired which I did and I got the letter today and express mail it to ottawa and will be there tomorrow. So since Iam due as of Aug 31st I have missed my chance for the ohip coverage.

wow! thanks for this info bartjones. it will certainly come in handy later down the road. I wish we could save threads so it will be easy to find when i need it!

so just to clarify, all i have to do is walk into the office, say i want to apply for OHIP as a PR applicant, they will refuse me, i will ask for it in writing, then send that to the review committee? I do not need to show proof of residency, or anything else requested in the application? and this is for ontario, correct?

Not quite. You will need to show proof of residency. An Ontario driver's license is accepted so get one ASAP when you arrive.

When you write to the OERC you will need to show that you have a PR application in process and provide them with either the file number or the principal applicant's UCI number so that they can make inquiries with CIC.

How can I get a drivers license in ontario if I'm here as a visitor? Wouldn't that cancel out my current US license?

Not sure about the US, but yes, my Korean wife had to exchange her Korean license for an Ontario one. I'm confused. I thought you you planning on residing in Ontario while waiting for PR. If that's the case why would you want to retain your US drivers license?

There are other documents you can use to prove residency. If you peruse the OHIP website, you'll find a list.

because i am an outland applicant who is here as a visitor. i can not "live" here until i am given pr status. while i hope to be able to stay long term this fall, there's no guarantee i wont have to return to the states for family/work reasons. since i am a resident in the US, i would think it's important for me to maintain my driver's license there. I am sure trying to switch my license before getting PR can cause me some issues at the border.

Well my wife is here as a visitor awaiting her PR and has crossed the border a couple times with an Ontario driver's license without a problem. If you're concerned about that, you can always prove residency in another way. As I said, there are a number of other documents you can use. Take a look at OHIP's website for the complete list.

PNP = Provincial Nomination Program.

Each province can nominate for permanent residence application.
Sorry, I just don't know the process for that application and, as a result, can't tell you how OHIP deals with it.

So to apply for ohip what documents or prove would they request? I have the enhanced license from the US. Also my husband added me to the apartment lease. We bought a car together in canada and have both of our names on the insurance.

The lease should be enough. What's an "enhanced license"?
