Hello Everyone;

My in-laws will be landing in Toronto in early May. They will not have OHIP coverage for the first 3 months after landing. Wondering whether it is mandatory that we buy a health insurance for the first three months until OHIP kicks in.

Realize that it is a good idea to buy a health insurance in case something goes wrong with their health. However, I am wondering whether there are any specific Canadian Government regulations/stipulations for this, similar to the requirements for the grandparents visitor visa ($100k minimum health coverage).

Thank You,

Sridhar.

It's not mandatory. It's just for your protection (avoid any risk of ending up with $100Ks in medical bills due to an unforeseen event).

Thank you, much appreciated! We will get the insurance, however if it is not mandatory, it gives us more options and flexibility.
