Whatever changes are made the status quo will remain. Harper will not bend or negotiate with unions.

Agreed. And sadly the general population doesn't care. Businesses that lose money care but the average canadian is just going about his/her life as if nothing is happening. I'm willing to bet my left arm that the majority of people in canada don't even know there's a strike.

You'd be correct.

What is the point of having a union if they are so toothless as to not being able to even spread their message effectively? How does it expect the Gov't to react without courting public opinion. If only some random tweet from someone trying to get to canada would trend!

What if we started one? i mean.. there are thousands of people only in this forum who are desperate to end this.. and while we wait, we could spread the word...

They have been spreading the word but mass media outlets have political interests as well and when those media outlets do not report or report inaccurately then people don't get the word.

Unions withhold services and hope that public pressure works in their favour. Unfortunately the opinion of many is that unionized workers are all fat and lazy and overpaid. If more people realized just how much they have gained from the sacrifices of unionized labour they may be more prone to act with the unions during labour disputes.

The bad news is, that we still have the same head of the Treasury Board, and the same Foreign Minister. I believe those folks are in charge of the pay cheques...

Mind you, the more pressure, the better!

CJG - What is your opinion of the new Immigration Minister? Are we going from the frying pan into the fire?

How is everything going with your wife since she landed? I hope all is well.

So we have a new immigration minister. I see this as a good news/bad news kind if deal.

The good news is that he isn't any worse than the old minister.
The bad news is that he isn't any better.

;D

Im wondering, are people allowed to congregate in groups peacefully? do we need a permit? If so lets do something like that so that we can get attention to this issue. We are lots of applicants waiting and if we show that local Canadians are affected maybe there may be some traction.

You have the right to peaceful protest. You do not need a permit but you do need to inform police of the details of your protest.

The only way a protest would work is if you have large numbers (in the thousands) and the media backing the protest...or at least reporting on it. If not, you are just wasting your time. Immigration to Canada is not a right, so most people wouldn't care about your immigration problems.

This process is all about patience. There is nothing you can do about it. Well, that's not entirely true. The best thing you can do is prepare a very detailed application package. This is really the only thing that can help to expedite the process, but even then, it really depends on so many other factors that are beyond your control.

The new Minister was once a foreign service worker so he is aware of the conditions they work under. Unfortunately he will be Harper's puppet and is also not involved in the contract issues so I doubt there will be any change.

Everything is good for us. My wife is enjoying her new adventure. :D
