Hey everybody!!

Quick question.

I sent my fingerprints to the FBI on Jan 29, 2010 (I don't know when they recieved it but I did send it overnight, so it probably got there by Monday Feb 1)

It's April 17 and I still haven't heard back from them yet.

Question: Is it normal to wait this long? I've been reading other people's posts and it seems as though they're getting theres a little sooner.

Please let me know what you guys think.

Thanks you all for your help and also for all your previous help too!!!

Cheers

The FBI normally considers 8-10 weeks normal. If it's been over 10 weeks, you'd be justified in phoning them and they might consider trying to do it right away. Ours was mailed about 10 days before yours and spent exactly 8 weeks at the FBI from when they received it till when they mailed it back.

They used to say it takes 8-10 weeks processing but I heard it can take as long as 13 weeks. I suggest calling FBI just to be sure!

I do believe the information is correct that it normally takes 8-10 weeks. It does say 13 weeks on their site but lately it has been faster than that from hearing by other members on the site that submitted theirs recently.

The FBI email suggested to me that the payment goes through after 10 weeks so I assume that is when they finish processing it then add in the extra 3 weeks it takes to mail something by regular mail and there you go: 13 weeks. You can reduce this time by supplying a Fedex courier envelope with your original request or sign up for a Fedex account and email them stating you would like for your account to be charge to courier the result back to you. Note: it does take a couple of weeks for them to add your request on the file.

In my experience after they process your payment, you should recieve your police clearance 2-3 weeks later if you are in the US. Outside of the country, I am not sure. I've gone through this 3 times now.

Why three times?

I sent mine first of December, mid March (13+ weeks later) I received a letter from FBI that said the print quality was too low. Waiting 13 weeks the first time, then finding another (better than local police) fingerprinting place, plus another 13 weeks, will make seven months waiting. I thought CIC was slow (hoping to get family sponsorship in 6 months), but at the going rate my own country's FBI will be the biggest holdup in this progress.

We sent in the first request with 1 set of prints in mid-March and then we sent in another request with 2 sets of prints last week. We are worried that FBI will not be able to read our first set and at least our 2nd request will be on the way already. We will probably send in the application in 2 weeks to CIC without the FBI certificate and a letter explaining that we are still waiting to hear back from FBI.

Sogwap - same thing! Local police departments twice. Now I'm not 100% my next route, there's this plac called Accurate Biometrics I might try out. I can't afford a third rejection, I was supposed to send out my application in January, now I'm looking at July which has... wow messed everything up for me.

FBI just charged the credit card! Does it mean that it's good news for us? Or do they still charge you even they have difficulty reading the prints?

Concorde411,

Yours took about 6+ weeks to get to you; were you in the US as at the date you sent in your fingerprint request? Mine has been sent since March 16 and I hope to get the result soon.

My credit card was charged the $18 fee some three weeks before I received the letter from the FBI that said they could not read my prints. :(

nyssa: I finally went to:
International Fingerprinting Service
4002 Sheppard Ave. E suite 206
(416) 293-2030
Cost just over $50 for two sets of prints, as they said I need an addition set of prints for Canada.
They seemed quite knowledgeable about FBI prints.

We received the clearance cert on May 15!! The request was received by them in the week of Mar 22 and the CC was charged two weeks before we received the clearance in mail.

sogwap - please keep me updated on your process! I ended up going to a state's crime lab. The guy who did my fingerprints TRAINS others to do fingerprints!! I sure hope this works... I can't even imagine why they wouldn't. I wish you all the luck in the world, we've been waiting way too long for this.
