Hello folks,

I have been working for my company for almost two years and half and I am still in the pool waiting for an ITA...

The problem I am facing now is that I have to extend my work permit under the same employer. The expiry date on my current work permit is January 8th 2017. I need your opinion on these following two questions:

1. When do you think it is the proper time to apply for extension of work permit?
2. If I apply to extend my work permit in September 2016, would CIC issue a one-year work permit that starts from September 2016 instead of January 8th 2017?

I thank in advance for your reply and any thoughts or comments.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Best

Do you have an approved LMIA to support the extension?

Hi Bs65,

The one that I have is Post Graduate Work Permit of three years.
Thought?

Thanks.
PGWP are not extendable. You would need to apply for a new closed work permit supported, as scylla said, with an LMIA. Failure to present an LMIA may result in the application being returned as incomplete, offering no implied status.

Thanks folks!

See problem is that my work permit is going to expire on January 8 2017.

Do you guys think that I have enough time to get LMIA?

Also, is it true that you have to mail your application (for extending work permit) instead of applying online if your employer write a note saying that LMIA application has been submitted but not approved yet?

If LMIA takes more than three months to be approved then it would be a disaster for me, I suppose...

Anyways, folks, please comment. Thanks!

I just found the following instruction on CIC website.

'Your employer must apply for a new Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Service Canada to extend your job offer. It is the employer’s responsibility to check the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) website whenever they apply for a new LMIA to ensure they are aware of any program or policy updates.
You and your employer must also sign a new employer employee contract. Make sure to keep a copy for yourself. While your employer is applying for an LMIA, you may apply for an extension of your work permit by mail to the Case Processing Centre (CPC) in Vegreville, Alberta.'

So, we cannot apply online or what?

Can anybody comment on this?
