Entering Canada without a PR card

Hello

Two months ago my wife was granted PR status. She was issued a letter indicating this at the border and was told in two months the actual PR card would arrive in the mail. However two months have come and gone with no card arriving. She has since been called away out of the country on business. Will she be able to enter Canada with just her letter and not actual PR card? The customs agent told her that she should have the actual card if she was to enter Canada and not to use the letter, not sure if this is a optional or mandatory?

She needs to get a travel document from the Canadian visa office in the country where she is at present. its takes a week's time. Not a big deal.

Thank you for you reply!

However "travel document" is a bit vague. Do you mean apply for a Visa?

No - it's actually called a "travel document". See more information here:

I see.

Thank you!

Err, how many months does it take to receive the PR card after you are approved?

It's currently taking 64 calendar days for the PR card to be issued. This 64 days starts from the time you land in Canada and become a PR (not from the time you are approved). You can see the processing time here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

Will she have to leave her passport with the embassy staff while they process this travel document?
