Why would they need to be worried about that? Canada will not ask anyone to leave unless convicted of terrorism first. Hello!!!

I don't fully trust the government, no one does, no matter who's in government. Whether its the tories, liberals or dippers.

But there is a thing called due process.

I agree. A month's notice is reasonable.

For many of us, like myself, the US FATCA law is a huge factor. I landed on June 27, 2013 and I have no intention of ever moving back to the US. A two-year (for me) delay because I am losing my pre-PR time could be a huge problem in the near future in regards to being able to bank, renew my mortgage, start a business, save for retirement, etc.
I understand the FATCA law being an issue for Americans in Canada. You do realize renouncing American Citizenship is not as simple as you think. First you must come up with the money. You have first be cleared by IRS first. Once they give you the green light, only then it goes back to US government to determine whether to grant you to lose US citizenship. I suspects this will take years to complete. I wish you good luck in your long process.

BTW: US is not a signatory to statelessness. You can legally renounce your US citizenship and become stateless while you are in Canada. You won't have to pay any more US taxes anymore. This of course would mean you cannot exit Canada until you get Canadian Citizenship. However does one lose PR status because of being stateless, I don't know. Probably not. As I am sure there are a few PRs that are stateless refugees in Canada.

I have a gut feeling that cut off date will be around August 1st, 2015
I just read the CIC News, they celebrated Pan Am-themed citizenship ceremony marks 100-day countdown, so according to their facts under the news:

  • In 2014, 3,121 citizenship ceremonies were held across Canada, where more than 262,000 new citizens were welcomed - this is more new Canadians than in any year in Canada's history and more than double the number from 2013.
  • Canada's Governor General proclaimed that 2015 is the Year of Sport in Canada, and its overarching theme is “Canada: A Leading Sport Nation.”
  • The Pan American Games will be held July 10-26, 2015 and the Parapan American Games will take place August 7-15, 2015.
  • The TORONTO 2015 Games will be one of the largest multisport events ever hosted in Canada and will gather more than 10,000 athletes, coaches and officials from across the Americas.

So, the last day of Pan Am game will be July 26, 2015 that could be possible that the cut off date will announce on Pan Am Game day and given 1 month buffer announcement for the potential citizenship applicants, the odds are quite narrow but still I keep my hope high :)

Hello everyone

I'm following this topic and today finally I also managed to speak with a supervisor who presented himself as Roger Williams. He said that the cut off date is not selected yet and by the day they will have the confirmation the same day it will be published officially.

I asked him why some of the call centre employees are giving dates when there is no confirmation?
He answered that there is no possibility someone of them to know the date because is not selected officially and he will check the reason why the call centre is giving dates which are not confirmed by any means.

Me personally can also confirm that the call centre is giving different dates, I hope that these employees will get what they deserve by giving information which is not confirmed by the government.

Great post. But CIC can still go independently and have an earlier implementation date. The games and BillC24 implementation are not related in any way.

I dont think anybody in a situation as @2_of_5 is, will consider the Option to become Stateless in the HOPE that he is going to get the Canadian citizenship.

I would love to hear what does 2_of_5 think? Do you want to go Stateless for sometime (months or years)?

What kind of travel document is it? I am curious as to what it is? It is obviously not a passport and a PR travel document would allow you to come enter Canada from outside.

Just curious as to what kind of travel document is it that would allow you to leave Canada stateless.

Technically you can, with a Certificate of Identity. However, a CI is not valid for travel back to the country you made yourself stateless from.

Moot point for me anyway, it's not an option as my job requires me to maintain a valid passport for travel to Europe, Central America and, yes, back to the US every so often.

Don't think anyone wants to be stateless at all. Just it is an option for those who are desperately want to avoid paying US taxes before getting Canadian Citizenship.
