U can start job and apartment search a few days before arriving and keep "bank account" on priority as to secure your money and any jewelry. check rbc's website for new immigrant packages, so that you already know what you will get from them. I'm mentioning RBC as its newcomers package is the best among all you get free locker for 1 year, bank account with unlimited transactions for 6 months, and u have a good chance to get credit card approval, which helps you build your credit history.

Then u can do the rest of the chores like apply for SIN card and medical card. Medical insurance is something else first you need health cards.

for bank account just take along your passport and landing paper (which is attached in your passport by the immigration officer after you land). The letter containing SIN number takes around a week to be delivered, after you apply.

for TV, Phone and broadband Telus has a good package. you should also call Shaw to compare prices as they keep on offering new packages all the time.

wat about tv channels??.cricket channels??.

ICC championship will be broadcast on i guess star sports its $17 a month and with desi package you get a sports channel, CBN they will broadcast ASHES 2013 and they usually show old cricket matches, sports channels are a bit expensive than others you can add as much as you want and can unsubscribe any time..

I am not really sure about it as i don't have that. it costs $250 and works with your broadband its one time investment and you will have access to every single desi channel

but you will be unable to watch local channels and cartoon channels for kids on JADU, they are only available on telus or shaw

yeah i know about jadu tv..here it costa around 100 CAD..same situation here in Singapore/Malaysia..we have to buy different packages..quite expensive
