Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone can help me make sure I havnt got anything wrong here...

I'm currently in Canada on a visator visa, waiting for my COPR which was put in the mail last week,so shouldn't be far off!

So,I just want to make sure I've got everything correct for the landing process?

So once I get my COPR,I can get a bus down to the states for one night, then cross back over and I get my permanent residency?
And all I will bring will be my COPR,passport and a small overnight bag with a change of clothes etc.
The stamp my passport at the border and "activate" my permanent residency?

And that's it?is there anything im missing out on?or anything else I need to bring?

Thanks in advance!
You don't need to actually cross the border if you don't want to. You can:
1. just go to the US side of the border, tell them you are landing as Canadian PR
2. they will send you to their secondary check, where they give you a paper
3. then you go to Canadian side, say you are landing
4. give them the paper, passport and CoPR
5. they ask you a few questions, tell you to sit and wait, and call you in like 5-10 mins and tell you it's done.

If you actually want to enter US, make sure you can (visa exempt passport or passport with a visa), and on the way back to Canada say again that you are landing (take steps 3-5).

I did the first way (called flag poling), there were no problems.

Hmmm... Do we really have to drive/fly out and in to land? My husband and I dont have a car and flying just for the sake of landing is a bit too much I think. Lol is there another way to land? I'm already in Canada and I've heard of going to the airport is one way but Im not pretty sure if its true and how it works...

Thank you! =)

As I have heard, there are buses that go to the border, but you will have to check that, since we drove (I wan in Canada, too). Flying would be just ridiculous. I think you can land on an airport only if you fly, not sure if it's available if you just go there.

There is an option to get a meeting somewhere in Vancouver (the letter that comes with CoPR explains that), but I've heard the wait time is over a month.

There are no other options - either the border or that Vancouver CIC office.

Is that so? Well, I havent received my CoPR yet in the mail. I'll check out if there are buses that go from my area across the border. Or can I get on a bus and get off near the border but cross the border on foot? The one with the vancouver CIC office seems a little bit too long a wait for me. Will have to find a way to cross that border right away..

Thanks for you help spaceexp. =) You've been a great help!

You can also Land by visiting CIC's revolving Itinerant offices. It's basically a travelling office.

The list of them is found here and changes frequently.

Well clearly Ottawa have stepped up a gear given all the DM's over the last couple of days including ours. Our ECAS didn't even change to in process, in fact it still says 'application received!' Maybe they stuck the Rocky soundtrack on in the background as they're working up a sweat in that office now!

I feel like we've been waiting sooo long since any changes have been made to ECAS. It's been stuck like this for a while now:

"We received ____________'s application for permanent residence on May 13, 2014.

Medical results have been received."

We did have one issue back in October/November 2014 when they requested my husband's criminal record check from Mexico, but I'm sure it's all fixed now as they haven't emailed anything since then. Could that be why it's delayed for us?

Anyway, glad to see things are coming along for some of you! Hopefully for us too... ;D

I know that documents being requested does add some additional wait time, b/c your application goes back into sort of a queue for those needing additional documents. I think I read no more than 2-3 months though? Gosh it's been awhile - I'm honestly not sure. Have you requested your GCMS notes recently? That could give you some insight as to whether your Police Clearance from Mexico was attached to your file, etc.
