First hand experience: we live in Vancouver. I was here on a NAFTA work permit. We applied OUTLAND. No problems. Bottom line: you always have the right to apply OUTLAND. You can apply INLAND if and only if you are living in Canada with your sponsor. The CIC website is very misleading on this point, though. Indeed, the point of "Agreement in Principle" is that you are being granted special dispensation from the normal requirement that you apply for permanent residency from OUTSIDE Canada.

The fees are the same. Just send the fee paid receipt in with an outland application.

You don't need a PO Box in Blaine (actually, Point Roberts is closer in case you really care). All mail can go to you here in Canada.

My NAFTA work permit expired while the PR application was pending. I had applied for a renewal in August, landed in October, and in November they refused to process my renewal application because I was no longer eligible - they actually refunded the renewal fee.

Or did you use the "Application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class (FC)" as the CIC website indicates to use if "your spouse, partner or dependent child lives outside Canada"?

out of curiousity, does ottawa send an AOR2 when they receive the application from mississauga? if so, generally how long does it take to receive notification of this?

Nope! The first notification you'll get is if they request additional documentation or it changes to in process/decision made on ECAS.

You will always be able to see the progress through your husbands ECAS. I got my husbands UCI randomly in an email they sent back to me (I sent an email asking if they got the additional documents I sent them) but I never use it. The Sponsor's UCI shows both the Sponsor's info and the Applicant's info in ECAS.

Once your application is received by the visa officer, they will send you an email that states your app has been received and gives you the UCI and application number.

If you use UCI to log in ECAS, you need to put your sponsor's personal info (birthday, birth place etc), then ECAS will show both of you and your sponsor's application status.

If you use the application number to log in ECAS, you need to put your personal info instead of your sponsor's. And ECAS will only show your application status.

guys why do u think the cic may request a copy of passport?? last week my ecas changed to in process after 12 months and the next day they send me a letter asking for a copy of passport and an updated police certificate . i sent the documents and i am still waiting . Why do u think they need a copy of passport coz i am.not from ana exempt country?? and how long do u think my ecas will take to change to decision made ?? this waiting game is driving me mad

i would assume that's your passport request. most visa exempt countries only need to send a copy of the the passport, not the actual passport. my guess is you will see decision made really soon.

I got my UCI number in they sent me an email for document request. If you really want to know then I suggest emailing Ottawa with a request. If you're lucky enough to get a reply, it will mention your UCI#.

I really want to know what's going on here. Whether or not my file is just sitting on someone's desk as a coaster or thrown out or what. And to top it off I can't find my receipt to track it again to see if they even got it. Grr

I never heard a word from them aside from sponsorship approval, and I just got CoPR the other day. It's frustrating, but no AOR isn't necessarily abnormal. However, I do think you should try to track down whether they got your docs!

i hope so but i am not from an exempt country i need a visa to leave to canada .

your uci number always remains the same. like most people are saying on here, the norm is not to hear from them again until they request more information or they are ready to issue COPR.
