Does anyone had a situation where the medicals were done outside the USA?

Say if the family is on vacation and there you receive an AOR for medicals. Can that be done from the home town in order to avoid the delay?

And how long do we have to do the medicals after getting the AOR.

Medicals can be done anywhere in the world. All you need to do is to get the list of CIC approved practitioner in that country from www.cic.gc.ca and then have them exmine you. But You should have all the forms or instructions with you. Those instructions are sent by CIC at your Home address or the address from where you applied.
Sometimes CIC will suggest you few specific Practitioner names and hospitals in your area, Then you must get your medicals from those Practitioners.

Thanks Alberta Governor.

So that means that I have to go to the medical center which they recommend. I am planning a vacation for my family and my dependants might live in India for a longer time than me. If the AOR comes in that time frame, then I plan to get their medicals done from India. Will that be a problem ?

Yes In case if they suggest any DMP or Hospital. If they simply send you the forms and instructions then you can have examination from any DMP in India.

Ell.bee,
I recieved my AOR/ medicals and they simply (without specifying any doctor or country) gave me the website to go to any of the doctors on that website and do my medicals.the only thing that was said to me was that it is an advantage for the whole family to use one doctor. So from my understanding u can do your medicals anywhere in the world.

In order for you not to complicate your own application, you need to either wait to get the Medical done in US, or do it at one place from one DMP in India or wherever you will be, if one will do in India and others will do in US or vice versa then it just complicates and delay the process.

Just in case you select that route, keep all the Cash Receipts that you submitted your medicals before the deadline for proof.

Thanks for your reply rascojenkins and that is releving to know they do not specify a doctor and let us choose one.

And a question to NewYorker, can you please explain the need for saving the receipts?

Also I had read somewhere that there is a timeline in which the meds have to be done. Is there a way we can extend the timeline?

I need this information very badly as I dont want to endup in something messy with my CIC application

The need to keep the receipts is just in case is the medicals are lost by the DMP, by CIC or in the mail. You will have your proof that you completed the medical within the timeline. They (DMP) won't give you any proof except a receipt or sometimes a tracking number, however tracking number is not a proof of completed medical, it is a proof that something is delivered from you to CIC but not necessarily medicals, so only proof you will have to fight your case is your receipt. (this is only if you ever have a dispute).

The timeline is 60 days for Medicals, if you want to extend it, you need to first get approval from CIC with reasons.

Thanks NewYorker, this sounds comforting that the timeline for medicals can be extended beyond 30 days with consent of CIC.

Friends,

So did we have folks on the forum who have done this. And has this to be done after we get the AOR?

Here is what I think I will be doing. If I get the AOR without specific doctors listed on it, then I can get the medicals done in India.

If they have mentioned specific doctors in the US, then I will can ask them to either extend the 60 days timeline or else I can ask them to allow me to go to any doctor in India.

Do you think this will be possible?

They will not allow you to see any Doctor in India for Medical Exams, there is a list of approved DMP on CIC web page, you need to get your medical done from those DMP ONLY, doesn't matter whether you are in India or in US. They will not ask you to go to specific doctor, you can choose from the authorized list in any country, in order for not to delay your case further, you should complete all members (if there are more members) medicals from one DMP - make sense?

I do understand that we have to do the medicals from a designated DMP. But in question to the other point, if I do have to do medicals separately for me and my family, that does count, just that it might delay the processing. Right ?
