Ok, those numbers for toronto are wrong.

A subway token is $3.25. Amonthly ttc pass will set you back about $120/month. $300 rent is if you find a basement apartment about 2hrs travel time from school. It completely depends on location. The closer to campus, the higher the rent. (A room in a house by my campus is roughly $550-$650/month.

Food would set you back around $200/month at the bare minimum.

Minimum wage jobs pay $11.60/hr. take away tax, ei, cpp contributions.

If you can find a job that fit around your class schedule, that is.

Each class credit = 1 study hour per week in class. You're expected to spend 3 x that on homework to pass.

My classes had 3 credits each. I had 8 classes/week. That's 24 hours of in class lectures. Than 72 hours per week, at least, of homework and assignments. One week has 196 hours. Take away my classes and homework and i'' left with 70hrs for sleep, travel to/from school and work.

Do you really want to spend time on working 20hrs per week as well?

This is the accurate picture. I would ignore any advice given by those who have never actually lived in Canada.
