Hi, i want to clarify this point that what questions does the CBSA officials usually asks with the newly landed immigrant at Toronto Pearson airport? Also, how frequently do they take physical search of the baggage of the newly landed immigrant? Is it a common practice or not?

What is the proper method to declare the baggage in order to make this process smooth and quicker?

No question really? Its up to you if you want to declare any thing and want them to stamp your B4 form, other wise they rarely question anything.

To properly declare every thing make B4 lists. Follow this link

Is there any option of "Green Channel" or a place through which we can pass (if we dont have anything to declare) without any checking or sort of thing or its a must for the newly landed to go to a CBSA officer?

Yes there is but dear then they will not stamp your B4 forms. And if they don't stamp B4 forms then its no good because you can't bring goods later on without paying duty as listed in goods to follow list. Also if you are carrying jewelry you should stamp your B4 forms from customs.

But if you really want to pass without any botheration and don't want to stamp your B4 lists then follow the green channel, no one will ask any question and you will be through in minutes. Newly landed immigrants are rarely asked any questions or baggage is searched.

good luck...

You don't need any further feedback. Cocknbull has given you the full answer. You must go through the declaration channel and have your B4 form stamped.

If you say you have nothing to declare, then your B4 form won't be stamped and you will also be lying since you must have personal items to declare as someone who is landing for the first time. You can still be sent for a random search even if you go through the "green channel". And if they send you for a random search and find out that you have items that you should have declard but didn't - this can result in fines and sometimes having things confiscated.

If you want to avoid problems when you land, you should do things propertly / follow the rules and declare the items on your B4 form.

I think, we can make this discussion more helpful and full of knowledge for all those who are planning/waiting to land in Toronto. I would request all people who have landed in Toronto Pearson Airport to share all of their landing experiences in detail covering the following:

1- The route of their travel like Emirates (From India), PIA (Direct from Pakistan), Etihad (from UAE), British Airways (from UK) etc

2- Total persons traveling (means either traveling alone or with family)

3- Number of documents which they have filled on the airport

4- Approximate time taken on each counter

5- The process of customs and baggage checking by CBSA staff

6- Questions related to proof of funds

7- Total time taken to finish all the formalities and coming out of the airport

8- Any other questions asked by any of the officials from different departments present at the airport

9- Any other experience or valuable information or useful tip which anybody like to share with the others.

Thanks and waiting for more and more of your contributions.

My parents/siblings were out in arrivals hall within 1 hour.
they traveled from france to canada with transat.
Not much questions from CBSA, no baggage search.
Quick stamping, and landing formality. No issues. Officials were welcoming and very polite.
they didn't need to show funds as they were in family class(sponsorship).

the only form they filled was the customs declaration form (given on the flight to everyone).
The form is here: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/e311-eng.pdf

What should be done for proof of funds? some countries have restrictions in going out with large sums of money. What if someone dont bring the money? what do they ask about it?
