Hi,
Just wondering, if anyone received PR under CEC with NOC 4011 for work experience as a visiting scholar or postdoc?

There was a post a long time back on this. Do a search on the forum with "postdoc". There was one who got his PR a few months back and posted his experience. Title of his post was "Post doc with T4A dont worry".

I am also a post doc but my application is in process so can't give much advice.

I think I saw that post. But I am actually not applying under CEC. I will be applying (if I do) under FSW.

I see that the person who started this post also got his PR (his status shows that). I thought I might gain something from his experience.

Did you also do the same thing. Highlight 'teaching' responsibilities more than the 'research' (which is actually what postdocs usually do).

I don't teach at all so my experience is teaching. Also the code 4011 is not at all relevant to me so I went with 2133. But then again I haven't crossed the bridge yet. But from the posts I went through, it seems best to choose the code that fits your description as a post doc.

Ok. I just assumed you also went in with 4011. Yes, that is a separate story then.

I also have a similar choice, to go with the actually skill (2132 in my case).

But then the title 'Postdoctoral Researcher' falls under 4011, and not under 2132, or 2133 in your case. Is it that the title doesn't matter, only duties do ?

You can definitely choose your actual domain as your NOC, actually that's what people have recommended me to do. You can mention in the cover letter that your skill as a postdoc falls within that specific NOC category (with the reference letter from your employer as the supporting document).

Thanks. Yes, that's where all the suggestions are leading me too.

But I wonder why CIC included postdoctoral fellows in NOC 4011 then ? They must be under the wrong impression as to what postdocs usually do ?

CIC is not responsible for the NOC, that is the domain of ESDC (formerly HRSDC) and Statistics Canada -
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/Welcome.aspx

If you notice, there's a link to tell them what you think for the next version...

Thanks for the link.

I have sent my suggestion regarding this issue. They are going to accept suggestions until 30th June 2014, so I guess this was a good time to have asked this question here and getting that link from you.

I had included my work contract with my application. That includes actual duties, the supervisors etc. If you have one, it might be better to include it.

I am also planning to apply under NOC 4011 - University lecturer. I have gathered all the required documents along with proof of funds, English test and ECA reports. However the ECA report I received mentions my MSc degree is equivalent in Canada is 4 years BSc degree!!

I have completed my BSc (3 Years), B.Ed (1 Year) and MSc (2 Years) with distinction grades in all the exams from Indian Unviversity. I also have 6 years experience in the same field.

My query is - Am I still eligible to apply under FSW even my ECA report shows my MSc degree is equivalent as Canadian BSc degree?? Please let me know your responses on urgent basis as I have very little time remaining to send my documents. Your help is much appreciated.

Yes. You can give your title like "Post-doctoral Researcher - DEPARTMENT NAME." Ch0ose the NOC based on the best fit with duties.
