As I said I am not sure but I know that if you do have to go for an interview as a US applicant you go to LA or NY. rhcohen on the forum is an expert on US applicants applying, maybe reach out to them?

If your application has the required info, no red flags, etc then your application will stay in Canada and you should sail through, roughly 6-7 months total processing time is the current average.
Thanks so much! I feel much better, but I'll follow up with rhcohen.

Anyone see this update?
Makes you want to switch to inland process after all.

Effective December 22, 2014, eligible spouses or common-law partners have the opportunity to work in Canada while they wait for their application for permanent residence to be processed.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will issue open work permits to certain spouses or common-law partners who are applying for permanent residence from inside Canada, before the approval in principle decision on their application is made.
Yeah, I considered applying Inland for that reason, but in the end I decided to go with Outland because I want the option of being able to go back to school without having to pay international tuition fees.

Does anyone have experience/advice/links to online time calculators about visiting Canada under a Visitor Visa as a PR applicant? I know as a U.S. citizen I'm allowed 6 months in Canada. Is this 6 months per year, or total? When does the count start over? At the New Year? After a year after my first entry? After 6 more months outside of Canada?

I visited Canada for 2 weeks in May and 1 month in December. If I want to visit Canada for 2 months in April and May, and 3 months in July, August, and September, will I be overstaying my visit?

Actually no one knows whats going on there. But let's just hope its faster than the date they indicated on the website. Some assume that a lot of applications have been received during the holidays and they are trying to fast track all their back logs. But based on some of the thread I've read particularly on November 2014 applications.. most of the first week of Nov applicants started receiving their AORs already.. so let's just pray and be positive that they are really getting back on their track and hopefully the days of waiting will lessen..
Thanks
good to know, crossing fingers

The 6 months means you can enter Canada and by default be granted a 6 month period. If at the end of those 6 months you want to remain in Canada you would need to apply for an extension, or you could just go over the border to the U.S. and come back, but the border patrol might wonder why you want to go back to Canada.

You can spend more than 6 months in Canada in the same year. The year begins from the day you enter Canada.

I completely agree with you! for a moment the new conditions for the inland application seems to be very interesting buy I prefer to have my PR sooner. This waiting it's gonna pay off!

Really? Would you not want to become a permanent resident within a year instead 2/2.5 years, unable to leave Canada to visit family or go on vacation?

CIC New Update!!! :-\

From 81 days now to 85 days!!

(Working on applications received on October 22, 2014) :'( :'( :'(
Oh no! They've had our application since this past Monday the 19th and I'm already pulling my hair out. That's a ridiculously long time frankly! Hope it improves. I think it's best to just put it out of mind for a couple months or you just end up driving yourself crazy! :p

Good luck to all applicants!!

Lorrein, forgive my ignorance but why are you sending your application to the Mexico City office? Do you not require sponsorhip first through the Mississauga office?

I'm wondering if is there anyone that its planning to apply to a visitor visa during the PR process. Does it affects my chances to get a visitor visa?

You can apply for a visitor visa during the PR process. We considered doing it but the applicant requires strong ties back to their country of origin; like a very good job or a business or school or some kind of strong family ties to ensure that the applicant will go back to his/her country at the end of their stay in Canada (not overstay). It can be difficult to get that visitor approval. Depends of course, on your personal situation.

My wife tried to get a visitor visa in July 2013 and was refused despite submitting what "we" thought was a solid application.

My wife did receive an American visitor visa (much easier) and we have twice travelled to the northern US close to the Canadian border so that my family could come and visit with us and my wife could meet my aged and frail mother.

Best of Luck!
