First off, it takes typically 2 months to get an answer on your Visitor extension. Mine actually took 4. So, apply early, I'd say at the end of the year or in Jan. Second, watch your status when you get your extension. When applying, I stated I had a PR in the process and wanted to stay with my...

Money Question- I know to avoid $10,000 in the bank, otherwise there's a big tax by the US govt. What about cashing out a US 401K? I understand there are penalties to it, the US will excise a tax I think, should I assume the CA govt will as well? Asking our CPA seems useless as they don't know...

Just called CIC. Turns out, my "file" was sent to the local office (Saskatoon). They want me to come in for an interview?? To issue my PR card?? I asked her if this was common and the rep said, "no", but they apparently want to verify something??? Anyone else had this happened or am I just the...

If you choose to bring them after your landing, you need to declare them on a "Goods to Follow" form, I believe, to avoid the duty taxes.

LANDED!! We crossed the border back into Canada on July 21st. I'm glad I was on the ball because the Kingsgate, Idaho CBSA officer in the office didn't even take my COPR, just my passport and then handed it back to me, said I was good to go. This was AFTER I'd told the officer at the window...

    JUST STARTED! PLEASE HELP :)

I'm not clear on what form/questions your talking about...but if you're currently at your present employer, leave the "to" blank. But, for the ins and outs of your ceremony, that's a good time to put some info in the box, then say, "Additional Page Attached" and on that separate page, you can...

    IMPORTING CAR

Has anyone deciphered the CIC website to know where to find the information on how much it is to import a vehicle? I know it depends on the make/model/year of the car. Thanks!

    JUST STARTED! PLEASE HELP :)

Like Laura said, the Document Checklist will tell you WHAT you need and WHERE it goes in order. So yes, there is an order to it. Just start with one form and get it done. Then, move on to the next one. You can do this!
