US Citizen Filing For Taxes in the US

Sorry to resurrect this older thread, but this seems like the best place to post it. My husband is a U.S. citizen and he hasn't signed up for his company's RRSP yet because we're afraid of the U.S. tax implications. His company is a Canadian division of a U.S. company, but I'm afraid that if...

No, all the VO asked for was his passport biopage scan. Then when we finally received it, we saw that they had issued the COPR in February but somehow it didn't actually get mailed out until May. My only guesses are the VO was on an extended leave (sick, vacation) and it had been left there...

Wow, Ivan .. I'm so sorry to hear this. I thought ours took forever when we got PPR in February and it took until May until we received the COPR. Has anyone from the Ottawa office responded to you at all?

It's a tough decision for me, too. I found out this information from the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch): http://www.cba.org/BC/public_media/family/161.aspx. It's a pain to go through a legal name change for a hyphenated surname, but I still may do it.

I think Parker24 is in Ontario .. the rules in BC are different, from what I understand. I am also in BC, so I looked into this when I got married. I wanted to change my name to Maiden-Married but hyphenating your last name in BC requires a legal name change. If you want to continue using...

Good to know. I guess the thing that surprised me the most about the whole landing procedure was that the officers we encountered on the American side were much nicer/friendlier. Maybe it was just coincidence. Thanks, computergeek! You've been a great help to us and many others on the forum.

My husband landed yesterday (May 31st) - please update the spreadsheet, Bagel. And all the best to you for your upcoming landing! We're very relieved it's all over now.

My husband landed today via the Douglas/Peach Arch crossing! We're very relieved that it's all over now. We encountered a minor glitch when we (or rather I) decided that because the line into the US was kind of long, maybe we could just turn around and go back to Canada (there was a spot...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

That is interesting .. we have a trip planned to Hawaii in June and my spouse will not have his PR card by that time (he is a US citizen with a valid US passport). Although that said, we flew out of Vancouver to Honolulu and back again in 2011 with no problems and he was a visitor at that time...

Getting PR but living in US?

But if they don't actually intend to reside in Canada at this time, will they have enough proof to convince the VO? There are other people on the US Outland and CPP-Ottawa threads who were actually asked for additional proof of their plans to return to Canada when they had provided some evidence...

    processing time in Peru

ECAS is notoriously unreliable. If your VO opens your application and updates your status, you are 'in process', but some people see their status go from 'Application Received' to 'Decision Made' without ever going 'in process.' The processing time for your VO in Lima, Peru is 16 months. 16...

Thanks! It says the COPR was issued 10 days after our PPR, so I guess it was sitting on someone's desk for three months. >:( I'm glad it's here now though!

Yes, I'm not sure what happened and why it took so long to be sent .. maybe it was sitting under the files on someone's desk. We're happy that it's here safely now though! ;D

I also have good news. We finally received the COPR today, nearly three months after PPR. My husband will be landing soon.

Got COPR! Landing questions and vehicle concerns

I don't have any advice for you but we are in a similar situation. Also in BC, but my husband and his vehicle are here already. His COPR is in the mail and the worst part is the whole importing the car headache.

No, they didn't ask for anything other that the passport pages scan. We're in BC, so no CSQ needed. I'm already here in the country, so they didn't need to see the Canadian sponsor's intent to move back to Canada. And we sent around 70 pictures, which they must have been satisfied with. It's...

Decision made and will contact....but no Contact and its been a month?

Our eCAS showed Decision Made on February 20, 2013. I tried contacting the Ottawa office numerous times to find out what was going on, as we were in the same situation - all fees paid upfront, interview waived and PPR was nearly the beginning of February. We found out this week that they've...
