Which neighbourhood is a good choice for newcomers in Toronto? I heard that renting apartment is difficult if you don't have a job, how true is this? If I land in January, where can I stay at first?

Hi guys! Just landed in Canada (toronto), everything went perfectly well. They did not ask for proof of funds or anything at all. But one thing that confused me is that no one asked for my b4 form (goods accompanying) even though i had it fully filled out. When i asked customs, they just asked me if i had any goods that would be following, i said no. Then they told me i was good to go..and didnt take my forms or photos of my jewelry or anything.. is this normal?

dont you think that is because you said you don't have any goods to follow ... why would they need a list of things you have brought with you right now as they know you are immigrating to a new country and would be bringing your belongings ... they need a list of things so they dont charge you customs duty / tax on things that you will be importing by sea / land / air at a later date ... so now if you do get any personal items imported to canada, you will be subject to customs / tax

Hi,

We are planning a short landing in Canada around Oct end and then need to come back to India for 3-4 months. While for PR card, we will give our uncle's address, we would need to go back to Canada after our PR card arrives at our uncle's place in Canada.
I have read that one can go to USA first using US visitor visa and then with Indian passport and COPR (used once while landing at Canada already), one can cross the border and enter Canada via walking the bridge at Niagara.

So, my questions are:-

1. Do CBSA officers at road border allow entry basis Indian passport and COPR esp when the person entering does not have his PR card with him (as it's with the relative within Canada)?
2. If answer is yes to Q-1 above, does it matter while crossing the border if COPR validity date is gone or not? By this I mean the date by which the first landing in to Canada is to be done.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

can anyone help me with the info below.

While filling up the form for Goods to carry and goods to follow, do we need to enter the Canadian address or home country address under the importers section?

Many Thanks

Yes, you can land somewhere else. The principal applicant can land first.

Hi, I am planning to land in December. Regarding the proof of funds, is the amount of CAD 10,000 applicable to the whole family or just for the principle applicant? Can my wife carry CAD 10,000 in her name too?

It's not the proof of fund you need to declare. Proof of fund can be in the form of bank statements. It's the actual fund the traveler or group of travelers are bringing at landing (if equal or greater than $10,000).
