So I went to see my MP today.... well.... my MP's "case worker" and when I told her I applied in February she hung up the phone (we were in queue) and said that she won't call until it's been 12 months, and that the special phone line they call (even says it's for members of parliament) won't give them any information once they see that my application is only about 5 months old.

Well that was a waste of time and energy.

That's strange. My husband and I stopped at our local MP office. Within an hour he had details about our application. He even told us "feel free to call anytime if you want a status update"

She even tried to tell me that applying inland is just as fast as applying outland... as an American coming to Canada.

At this rate, she'll probably be right.

She also said that my (and others stuck in the same spot as me) are probably sitting on someones desk, while they work on the more troublesome and lengthy applicants, and they'll get to us when they do.
Right. Because as of now. Inland and Outland are the same time length.
Looking back I wish we had done inland cause I'd have a work permit right now.
But before. People swore up and down and all around that Outland was superior to inland.
Which it totally was before this new one year for all timeline came out.

Nice to hear that those of who are stuck are just being passed up by a more difficult application though. It's better than lost. Dunno why it's in mississuaga still though if mississuaga has done all they needed to do..

The entire process is a mystery. I was transferred to Ottawa may 24 and have heard nothing since (other then medical request) Some people get bgc in progress almost instantaneously while I have waited almost 2 months since transfer. That has to be the most frustrating part.

If I recall correctly it's because the eligiblity portion of the process is done in Mississauga. Only after that's done is the application transferred, then the BGC is started and then medicals requested.

Mine was transferred and eligibility is still not done. This is what I had my MP confirm. I got an email from Ottawa VO saying my app was sent back to Mississauga. I called the CIC call center and they said it was also in Mississauga. At this point called my MP who confirmed my app is 100% in Ottawa and they are working on eligibility.

I had also received emails from them before stating "your application is at our office in Ottawa waiting in queue for review by an officer"

I actually just got another email stating that our app is in Mississauga even though we received aor2 from Ottawa

It sounds like what I see has happened to people..

Mississauga: -AOR1, -SA, -Eligibility, -BGC >Ottawa: -DM, -COPR
Mississauga: -AOR1, -SA, -Eligibility, >Ottawa: -BGC, -DM, -COPR
Mississauga: -AOR1, -SA, >Ottawa: -Eligibility, -BGC, -DM, -COPR

it isn't consistent.. I feel it's just random at this point.. where as before the latter of the scenarios was the normal..

I got told that Ottawa only sent a digital copy to Mississauga just this past Monday. I wonder why

Just a theory but maybe they have instructed all there employees to process inland applications only for now, as I think the inland wait times used to be longer than 12 months. Now that inland and outland application wait times are 12 months, maybe they are catching up on the inland group. This is very frustrating.

At this point, our immigration lawyer has advised us to consider going the NAFTA route and we are definitely looking into it.

A question I'm sure has been asked before but I can't seem to find a definitive answer - we just got our COPR (yay!), and it expires at the start of september (not much time to land!). Do I (the sponsor - currently living abroad but moving back to Canada) need to accompany my wife when she lands?

As far as I can tell the answer is no, but I couldn't find anyone who had first hand experience.

A second question that is probably less common - we applied as a common law couple, but our wedding (which was scheduled for a year) happened after the COPR was issued. I emailed the CPC to inform them of the change in marital status and sent them a copy of the marriage certificate, but I am wondering if this means they will need to reissue a new COPR or whether we can land with the existing one. I am waiting to hear back from them, but given the tight timeline of the COPR expiring I don't know if we will hear back in time. Does anyone have experience with that?

Thanks!
