Would sending an invitation letter put my PR status in question?

For the past five years, I had been outside of Canada for 3.5 years.
But I was able to enter Canada before my PR card expires, so now I am living and working in Canada.
But I know that my PR could be taken away if immigration officers open up my file, because I didn't meet the residential obligation.

I have a fiance that I have been away for a while, and I really want to invite him here. But I am afraid to sponsor him as my spouse, because of my unstable PR status.
So I just want my fiance to come with visitor visa.

What I am wondering is- would the visa office (or Canadian embassy) assess my PR status if I send an invitation letter for my fiance?

Yes they will most likely look at your PR status. No guarantee that they will not report that you did not meet your residency obligations.
