I've applied for spousal sponsorship and included all the required documents. However, I did not know that the police certificate had to be within 3 months old, it was over a year old. I sent a message to CIC through the webform asking for an extension of time so that I can get a new police certificate, but I haven't heard back. It's been 13 business days. I've already taken the steps to get a new police certificate and am just waiting on it to arrive. Are there any other things I can do?

If they want a new police certificate they will ask you for one. If it expires they will request another one. In the mean time make sure you are able to get one within a 30 days time range. There is no need to stress about this.

You did the right thing and get a new one. They usually request the certificate 2 to 3 months into the process.

I've been contacted about needing a police certificate, and I began the process as soon as I got the letter. The letter said I had 60 days to mail a new police certificate, which is an impossible time frame from scratch.

I am not sure but I think that validity of 3 month has been waived. I couldn't find the information on this matter on cic site anymore.
I have mine obtained in December 2016 and hasn't submitted it yet, while all this time I haven't left Canada it makes no sense for me to request new one over again.

My thoughts exactly. From the time that the police certificate was issued til now I have not left Canada. Why would I need a new one?

Well you should call them to ask them because there have been ppl where they requested a new one even if you haven't left canada.

It would make sense since you haven't left canada but sometimes they can be so weird.

Would be a good idea just to verify

I've had many people tell me that the call center is useless, and I've already submitted a query through the webform

Yeah, but I've seen someone somewhere posted that you have to call at least 4 times to insure that information they provide is correct, because some operators are great help while others are not :D
Anyway, lets wait until they get back to you with an answer. Keep us posted, I wanna know if I would need to request a new one when time comes (which is costly and a great pain)
