Background: I'm US/Can and spouse is US, and we both live in the US right now, but we are hoping to move there late next year to get closer to my family who live near Toronto. I'm planning to start the sponsoring process right now prior to our move.

Currently I'm working here in the US but I will probably have to find a new job when I move to Canada. For the sponsor evaluation under B, should I put my US employer, even though when we move I won't be working here anymore. Also, for the document checklist, do I need to submit a proof of employment or income for that?

I am just not sure if I need to since I will only be working here until we move but then won't be working here anymore.

Thanks

Sponsor Evaluation B they are asking about your current Job details so if the US job is your current Job then Yeah you have to put that. We also applied while both working abroad and we did put the then employer.

For the document checklist they want a proof of income or employment from my employer, do I need to get this one? Since this is still in the future I don't want them to know yet.

What do you mean when you say "this is still in the future." ? Proof of income has to be provided, i guess they just want to see how you will support your partner once you move. In our case We did provide Pay stabs from the then Employer.

The move will be in the future and since I will most likely not have this job after we move to Canada, so I don't know why they would need the proof of employment/income here. We are planning to stay with my family until we find jobs/a place to live.

i'm not sure why that is being questioned? it's important to submit the information required or submit explanation of why it's not. sponsors are required to submit proof of current employment and CRA documentation. If they can not provide this information, then a letter of explanation is needed.

it really doesn't matter where your employer is and what you do. all cic cares about is whether you've filed for bankruptcy and/or have taken canadian welfare in the past 12 months. This is part of sponsor eligibility. whether you plan to work in canada later is irrelevant.

the forms need to be filled out with information up to the date you send them in, so if you are currently working for a us employer when you send in the forms, then you want to put that information down. if sponsors are employed at the time of the application, they are required to submit proof of employment, so yes, if that is the current place of employment when you apply, you will want to submit proof of that.

You don't need to ask your employer for a letter but you need to include proof of employment. I included a few payslips, my orginal contract and a letter of explanation stating that I couldn't ask my employer for letter without risking my job.

I think I'll probably do that, include the offer letter and some recent paystubs.
