I searched and could not find a similar topic, but was hoping to see if someone may have any insight on the following situation.

I have a friend who is a US citizen, who plans on entering Canada as a visitor and the potentially applying for Permanent Residency from within Canada under spouse or common law partner class. He is an existing shareholder of an Alberta numbered company, which already does business here in Canada. Is there any conflict with him performing work for the company while in Canada, while he is waiting for his PR application?

Yes - there's a conflict. It's illegal to work as a visitor. He needs a work permit.
