Then you don't have bad debts if he paid. 25% is the rate for withholding tax on passive income and rental income, not your case.

The difference of resident and non-resident for tax purposes is the reporting of income, resident-worldwide income, non-resident-Canadian only, your case is simple as you didn't have income abroad, and you plan to stay here to immigrate?
In 2018, if you still reside and work here for more than 6 mos then you become resident for tax purposes.
Still follow the forms here for 2017: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/tax-packages-years/general-income-tax-benefit-package/non-residents.html

In college, there is a subject/course about taxation. Or just read online the tax guide in CRA website or Canada.ca
I am not a tax expert, I was a tax volunteer with CRA for 3 years, very simple cases, low-income earners only.

Hum... I will take a look for that subject/course once I start studying.
I understand... I kind enjoyed learn about it... problem is the deadline, and all the complex things of the first time... Was the same in my first visa attempt alone.

I still filling the information to print and go to send... I am doing by turbotax, because simpletax does not works for non-residents.

Also I found out I would have to inform about the savings account - However the bank does not send T5 if the interest is less then CAD $ 50,00
And about my wife, that lives in Brazil, and was here only for 32 days ( 13 Dec 2017 - 15 Jan 2018 )

Hi, Pie_Vancouver,

Sorry to bother you again.
But when I changed to a Non-Resident.. then it changed to 0.. saying I do not have to pay anything.

Also, in the Statement of World Income... when says other Canadian-source income. I should put the amount I received in my self-employment?

Thank again!

If you don't owe anything, then you are not required to file.

Thanks!!

I see, I just wanted to make sure I do not owe anything.
So I wanted to understand why I dont owe.

I mean, if my net income is 13376,00. I thought I would have to pay.
I guess that is because 100% of my world income is from Canada.
And also because some non-refundable tax credit. that is marked as 11635.
But since I have a wife they double that (I dont know for what reason) Because I explicit said I am filing only my tax, since she lives in Brazil.

Yeah the non-refundable tax credits matter.
