Working from Canada on H1B

Hello,

We hold Canadian PR and H1B. Is it possible to work from Canada since anyhow we’re working from home due to COVID? Or does it really depends on the employers policy? Trying to avoid any contact with employers immigration team since they keep our reporting manager im CC.

Yes it is possible although some employers will not agree to it. You are going to need to update your contact information and your state taxes and need for health insurance will change if you are working remotely so you will need to speak to your HR department.

From immigration point of view, since you are a Canadian PR, you are legally allowed to work from Canada. However, there are implications on tax withholding. Hence your employer must be on-board so that they can withhold and pay Canadian taxes. Also, between you and your employer, there may be policies/agreements preventing this.

Thanks both for responding. Looks like the only option would be to discuss with my employer/immigration team.
