Hi, I'm a student from Germany and have a web design business as a side hustle.
Next year I plan to go to Canada for one year.
I want to keep doing web design projects from there to make money.
My question is: what type of visa do I need to stay in Canada for a year and work remotely? My business runs in Germany so I think I will only need something like a visitor visa. Is this right?

An eTA would allow you to visit Canada (it technically does not allow you to move to Canada or live here). Visitors are generally allowed into Canada for six months. You could then apply to extend this from within Canada for another six months. You can work in Canada on the eTA for your business in Germany as long as none of your customers / clients are Canadian or located in Canada. Note that as a visitor to Canada, you won't be covered by the health care system. You'll want to take out private travel insurance to cover emergencies. You'll need to pay for non-emergency care out of pocket.

You might also want to look into the IEC / Working Holiday Visa program.
