Hello.
I am a new student in Quebec having the study permit with allowance of 20hrs off-campus working per week.
I was wondering, if the job that I am going to do, is like one of the following:
- YouTube video maker
- Indie Musician working with Spotify and similar services
- Blogger getting income mainly via advertisements and/or product reviews in their website
- Selling handcrafts online
- Contract-based computer programmer
- A small online startup
- etc.
Then I am working similar to a self-employed person.
1) How is the government is going to calculate my working hours of self-employments to be sure that I am not exceeding the hours limits? How can I report it back to them?
2) Also, the work might be in a form that the income is not related to your actual working hours. Take the indie musician or youtuber or blogger as an example. You might work like 3 hours a week, and you might get an income way much more than the expected income of a normal person with 20hrs working. So in case they ask about the unusual amount, How can a student clarify that for the government that they have not exceeded the hours limit?
Thank you.
