work visa expire's

hello everyone i have a friend who has a work visa but its expired he wants to know if he can get it renewed or sort it out here in canada because he didnt plan to stay in canada in the begining but things happen in his home country so decided to stay,,,

1 he wants to get a sin card,dont think he can get any due to fact his work visa expired
2 what can he do to solve the issue
3 his father is a canadian can he help him or not...
4 visa expired close to 5 months now

Since his visa expired over 90 days ago, there's nothing he can do to restore his status from within Canada. (If it was less than 90 days since his visa expired, then he could apply to restore his status.) He should leave the country and apply from outside of Canada.
