Hello All,

Are there any restrictions on number of jobs / number of hours / kind of work you do while being a permanent resident in Alberta? I am an engineer and would like to do some consulting on the side in my field but it won't be my own business. I will work for someone and so they will pay me. Is that legal?

Many thanks!!

As long as you are a permanent resident you can work as long as you want even if it means not sleeping and doing 7 jobs 7days a week

There is no law against a PR having many jobs but it is possible that your primary employer has such a clause in your contract. Employers often want your full attention. They do not want to lose out because you are tired from doing your other job or that you are unable to put in extra hours when needed because your other job waits.

Also, if you are going to be working as a contractor, you should look at http://www.canadabusiness.ab.ca/index.php/legal/335-contractor-or-employee-guidelines-for-alberta to make sure you are paying the proper taxes etc.
