Hi Guys,

I am currently working with NOC 2171 in Quebec since more then a year, and my OWP is about to expire in 18th May 2018,
My employer is ready to help me get a new closed work permit,

The only problem is neither of us know how to get LMIA-exemption code in-order to apply for my closed work Permit,

I have done some research and found out LMIA Except jobs do not need CAQ to apply for Closed work permit in Quebec. Source --> (https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/foreign-workers/quebec.html)

I am waiting for CSQ which I applied in 18th April 2017 but as per current circumstances with MIDI, I am not expecting it Soon.

I will really appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance.
AJ

LMIA-exemption code is not something you can apply for, as far as I understand. Some occupations and situations are LMIA -exempt, and for anything that falls outside of it, you have to get LMIA.

My Occupation is NOC 2171 - skilled Category A , How can I know if its LMIA Exempt or not ?

For your NOC, If you dont have CSQ, then you are not LMIA exempt.

But in Quebec, there is something called Simplified LMIA process for your NOC code. Which means your employer don't have to advertise and show recruitment efforts to hire such person in Quebec. So you are not LMIA exempt, but eligible for simplified LMIA.

If you are looking for a work permit in Québec and you have an employer who is willing to help you through the procedure, you might be eligible for the simplified Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process.

Simplified means that the procedures and processing times for you to obtain the work permit are reduced in order to facilitate your work permit application. For example, some requirements such as advertising the job for other Canadians, are waived in the simplified process.

The simplified or facilitated LMIA process is aimed towards professions in high demand as well as industry sectors that are currently experiencing labour shortages in Quebec. This list of professions and industry sectors is continuously updated and revised throughout the year.
