Work permit removed from passport/ wanting to re-enter

My work permit was removed from my passport when I flew to Australia from Canada (by customs/ airport workers) I am looking to re enter Canada on the same visa as I have just over 12 months remaining.

Will I need to provide a new federal police check or will the one used 10 months ago be sufficient?

Will I need to supply the previously used conditional acceptance letter and work permit application also?

Did they say why they took it? It's strange of them to take a work permit away that's still valid.
