Dear all,

I would like to know the LMIA process, my liabilities as well as the employers in order to obtain a work permit.
I am on a Tourist Visa and would like to obtain Work permit in order to be able to stay and work in Canada.
Normally I work online and didn't need a work permit as my company is located in UK. I have got an extension till the end of December 2016, and before it expires I am looking forward to get a WP.

The employer owns a trade company (Interior & Exterior, Commercial & Residential Painting) in BC and the company is 25 years old.
They would like me to work for them as a Painter. I don't have any experience in my CV but I am very talented and skilled in this kind of trades.
The owner of the company is my friend's boss and willing to work with me. They would like to send me to Painting and Decorating Apprenticeship Program and do what ever it needs to obtain a WP.

Is it possible to go to this program and get a work permit with the help of the company?

Please feel free to share your suggestions / ask further questions. Thanks in advance for all of your answers

So just for clarification you have no professional experience at all as a painter/decorator and are looking for your potential employer to sponsor you with an LMIA where they have to demonstrate there are no Canadian painter/decorators available for the job ? Not sure that an LMIA has any chance of succeeding but miracles do happen. http://www.esdc.gc.ca/en/foreign_workers/hire/permanent/overview.page.

As for an apprenticeship that would I think be a 3-4 year commitment requiring a study permit and also applying for an attached work permit to cover the work part (coop) of the apprenticeship. See here another post similar question http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/study-permit-for-apprenticeship-program-t164490.0.html Not sure about finding an institution on the designated learning list which is a requirement for a study permit.

Study permit details http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study.asp coop permit details http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-coop.asp

Also see here https://www.welcomebc.ca/Work-or-Study-in-B-C/Job-profiles-for-immigrants/Painter-and-Decorator and http://www.itabc.ca/program/painter-and-decorator

Once you have the experience then given NOC code is 7294 and classified as a B there are immigration possibilities but getting that professional experience will be key.

As for getting anything sorted by December 2016 miracles can happen but might be best to be prepared for fact you might need to sort things out from home country unless you can extend visitor stay again.

1. You should note that registered apprentices in BC, must be PRs, Citizens or Protected persons.

Thanks so much for taking your time to reply. I understand that it is not easy but that was an offer came from the employer so I had to look for a way as he is ready to give me job. Sometimes things get very complicated especially when there is a time limit. I am normally an internet professional working online and that is what I would like to do but in order to be able to get a work permit and PR I need someone sponsor me and its not easy to find. I think I will ask for another extension and meanwhile maybe fill an express entry profile and see if I will get any invitation, I am from Turkey and I really don't want to go back at this point. Kindly.

I don't see how a painting work permit is going to be successful in your case given you have no experience in the field. To be approved for an LMIA, the employer has to prove there were no qualified Canadians that could be hired for the role. You have no qualifications as a painter either - so it makes no sense why the employer would hire you. I think this is guaranteed to result in a refusal. You should be aiming for a job that aligns to your past experience and education.

If this is truly an apprenticeship role - then as PMM explained, refusal is guaranteed since you aren't a Canadian citizen or PR.

Applying for Specific work permit on a visitors visa within canada

Hello All,

Please I need advise on what to do....

I am based in canada on PR and I have applied for LMIA which came back positive to bring a a babysitter from overseas.

my choice candidate has recently applied for Canadian visiting visa and is still waiting approval. Though the LMIA is valid till March next year but I am wondering if the person can apply for the TFW visa upon arrival into canada on a visiting visa or it's better and safer to apply in their country of residence (Nigeria) once they receive their Visiting visa.

Please any guided insight will be helpful

Thanks

Has your babysitter got the work permit now? I have the same situation. Hiring babysitter from overseas. Already have positive LMIA but wondering how to apply the work permit?
