Hello,
My work permit in Canada will end in June 2017, but I have a chance to extend it for 1 more year.
Can I submit my extension application now or it is too early?
Thanks

You may get an extension if

you apply for your new work permit before your current work permit expires;
you and your employer sign a new employer-employee contract, if applicable; and either
your employer gets a new Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada that says the employer is allowed to hire you, if your job requires an LMIA; or
your employer pays the employer compliance fee and submits a new offer of employment through the Employer Portal if your job does not require an LMIA.
To apply to extend a work permit from inside Canada, you must:

apply online; or
send an Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada as a Worker to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta.
You must submit your application before your current permit expires. You will then be allowed to stay in Canada until a decision is made.

You may continue to work under the same conditions and you will keep your current status until a decision is made. Find out how long it may take to process your application.

U cant apply for a status which u have already. I believe u can apply max 4 months earlier which is the case for BOWP, I dont know exactly how early u can apply for extending WP . Nobody does that actually as new work permit will start from the day its approved and the earlier one become null and void. So if u do that then this means u wont use the WP which u already have.

I hope this clears u up

Thanks for the info.
My job is LMIA exempt, last time I extended it about 4 months before expiring the previous one. The employer has to pay the fee, I am aware of all the procedures as I did it before. My only concern was about how early can I start the process. I see that for this time of year it is faster (1 month), last time it took me 3-4 months to get new one.
