My post graduate open work permit is expiring in March 2026, and I am short by 15 days of work experience to complete three full years and gain the corresponding experience points.
I am considering applying for a work permit extension so that I can complete those remaining days and qualify for the three-year work experience points.
I understand that applying for a dummy work permit extension is not legal and may have consequences, but I wanted to seek your advice on this.
Would it be acceptable to explain in my application that I need a short extension to complete my required work experience and to receive an invitation under the OINP Foreign Worker Stream, as I am currently in the pool?
Please advise, as I truly wish to continue staying and working in Canada and am not looking to move back to my home country.
Thank you for your time and guidance.

If you have any other techniques please let me know.

This is not an Express Entry topic as OINP FWS is a job offer stream not tied to Express Entry. You cannot extend a PGWP and it will be refused. No point in explaining because IRCC doesn't really care.

Ask further questions under Provincial Nominations.

Okay just scarp off the OINP part. And please suggest

Yes I understand, but later when I move back to my home country, then I will get one year of work experience and then my score will be around 520. So at that time will it affect my chances for invitation because of this refusal?

No impact. After a year of foreign work experience, how many years of Canadian work experience will you be able to count - 1 or 2?

My work permit expires on 10 March 2026,
And until then my Canadian work experience will be 2 years and 11 months. So I will be short of like 15 days. That's the reason why I am thinking to apply for work permit extension so I can claim 3 years of work experience.

So what is your CRS score with 3 years experience? Then if you leave and get a year of foreign work experience then may have only 1 or 2 years of Canadian experience to count.

My score with 3 years of Canadian work exp and 1 year of foreign will be around 520.
I can't get 3 year of Canadian work exp? Your mentioned it will be only 1-2, why so ?

I just had a thought — what if I apply for a work permit extension, and then, after a few days, once I complete my missing days of work experience, then I cancel my application since it was going to be rejected anyway. This way, I wouldn’t have a refusal on my record and would still complete my work experience ( and count full 3 years now )

So scamming the system. Get a lawyer to discuss your plan.
