Hello,

I have an employer that would like to hire me for a permanent position as a Senior Graphic Designer in Ontario. I am currently working on applying for a work permit and both the employer and I were concerned about what to put for the date range on the duration of employment, since it is an open ended contract. I understand that there is a 4-year maximum on temporary work permits. Would it be best to put a date range close to the 4 year max, so this would allow me time to apply for my permanent residency through the Canadian Experience Class after one year of work?

Thank you for your help!

Sarah

Are you applying under NAFTA? Then I believe the max duration of your work permit can be three years. This info should be available online.

Hi DesignzGirl,

you are confusing the max limit for which a temporary foreign worker can stay in canada with the duration a work permit can be issued for.
generally speaking work permits can be issued for 1 or 2 years based on a few factors but in some cases there is work permits issued for 3 years(example:pgwp).
i can guarantee you there is no 4 years work permits at all and there is no permanent work permits otherwise there shouldn't be something called permanent residence.

I have this same issue. What did you end up putting?
