Hi there,
My cousin is in a situation and we are not sure how to proceed.
So he joined a company on May 15 2023 and went back home on Nov 24 2023-Dec 27 2023 (4 weeks). During this time he was paid one week of vacation and rest was not. When he came back he came to know that the company had filed for bankruptcy. On the letter or on ROE it mentions last day as Dec 29 and he was paid Termination pay in that settlement. Now he got next job in end of January 2024 after three weeks of searching. He is still on same position since then. Now when creating EE profile since it only mentions months there was no gap. And he got his score updated in beginning of April and GOT ITA.

Now, his ITA expiry is June beginning. If we go with three years of experience then how will that unpaid vacation and job searching will be viewed? Will he need to have additional two months of experience more after May 15, to be counted as 3 year work experience? or gap of 2-3 weeks is viewed ok.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi there. Thanks for replying!
Unfortunately including those 60 days it will only add two weeks to the ITA expiration, by time three years will complete in May mid and his ITA expiration is Starting of June. So that will only fill two weeks in Job hunting.

So it appears he needs to decline the ITA but he needs to do his own calculations. He should be claiming the 1 week of paid vacation as work (as a separate entry or with a LOE) but he also has to list unpaid vacation and job hunt period separately. If he had unused vacation time that was paid out during termination he can count up to another week. He should include that in a letter of explanation just to be safe whether now or in the future.
