Work experience for CEC to be reduced from 24 months to 12 months

Folks,

Do any of you have any news /updates on when this reduction in work experience from two years to one year would come into effect / likely to be announced?

01 July 2012 was a probable date but it has gone by, without any news on this change. I am sure there are many waiting in the wings.

Those completing one year working in Canada (including myself) are very optimistic. Any updates that you can share on this change ?

There's been no news of it. The change will require an amendment to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act which would be gazetted first for 30 days.

Considering the gradual increase in processing time of CEC applications in the last couple months, I would be surprised if they did this soon as this would bring an influx of applications (in addition to the CIC budget cuts and closing of Buffalo). I think they would need to divert resources from the FSW program (including staff and quotas) to deal with any expansions to the CEC class. The longer the CEC class takes to process, the more it defeats the whole "fast-track" intent of the program.

Maybe they're waiting until they follow-through with their refund of the FSW backlog and decide how the new FSW program is going to look.

I agree with you. Going by the current state, it does not seem to go live any time before the third quarter of 2012 or even early 2013.
