Hi.

I've been in Canada as a Temporary Worker since Oct 2008 and by mid-Nov 2010 I will have reached 2 years continuous employment with my Canadian employer. Prior to Oct 2008 I was resident in the UK, working for a UK employer. I am looking for some clarification on what experience I need to detail on the IMM 0008-Schedule 8 form versus the employment references I have to supply.

On the Canadian experience application guide it states "Write details of your work experience in Canada. List your occupations within the 3 years preceding the date your application is made starting with your current occupation." I read from this that I only need to include my Canadian experience in the past 3 years? I assume that the UK experience I have gained within the past 3 years does not need to be specified?

The document checklist however states "original and up-to-date letters of reference from your past and current employers for the past 3 years". This does not specify whether in Canada or not, so therefore my assumption is that I require a letter of reference from my UK-based employer?

I'd just like to validate my assumptions are correct and would be very grateful if anyone can clarify.

Thanks

Hi, Here's my take on your question:

1) The UK experience does not need to be specified on IMM 0008 Schedule 8 since you only need to state experience in respect of employment in Canada
2) The UK experience should be specified in IMM 0008 Schedule 1 (Personal history section)
3) To be on a safe side, I think it would be better to provide the letter of experience for the UK employment (but only for the employment that falls in the previous 3 years period). Personally I think that only letters of experience with respect to employment in Canada should work out, but in cases where the CIC instructions are not straightforward, it's better to provide more than less....I hope it's not difficult for you to obtain that letter of experience......would save you time just in case they asked you to provide it later on.

I hope others can give their opinion.

Thanks for the reply Essat, that's very helpful.

Fortunately my UK reference should be on it's way in the mail so I will include with the application. I just wasn't sure if providing more in the case was going to cause confusion! But as you say, more is better..
