I volunteer as a dog walker at a local animal shelter. I just walked in a filled out a volunteer application, it was easy and its very rewarding. They also look for 'cat cuddlers' too.

Oh oh I also wanted to walk dogs (cat cuddlers not for me) and I went to Toronto humane society to apply for volunteering last year, but didn't apply because it's too far for me to travel 3 days a week. Also you are supposed to walk them in tha cage outside. Not even walking, you just let them free and they play in that cage for 15min max. ???

I heard on the news ( CTV ) last week , working under the table is legal now ...did anybody else here this ?

i doubt it !

If it is illegal, sorry I don't want to know, and I would not encourage it.
After coming this far why would someone want to jeopardize all the time, money and effort that they have put in?

If it was legal there would be no need for a work permit :)

OK Im only repeating what was on the news LOL im trying to find the article .

Found it .

I was not judging you - Good link BTW, but the law has not changed yet.
Defending illegal working on the back of an article in the T' sun would be a bit hard, even if you had access to the actual emails discussed.

As I said before, illegal stuff is not for me.

We all have a choice :)

ha ha ha believing anything the Toronto Sun says is like believing anything you read in the Enquirer.. The article is not about legally working under the table, it is about including your illegal work experience when applying as a Provincial Nominee.

And Baloo is right, if you get the opportunity I would keep it really quiet you would be suprised what comes up on back ground checks.

If anyone is in the Toronto area looking to volunteer, this is a great website to check out. http://www.thestop.org/

I added a little blurb from the site, all help is appreciated!!

From its origins as one of Canada’s first food banks, The Stop has blossomed into a thriving community hub where neighbours participate in a broad range of programs that provide healthy food, as well as foster social connections, build food skills and promote engagement in civic issues. Among the busy initiatives are community kitchens and gardens, cooking classes, drop-in meals, peri-natal support, a food bank, outdoor bake ovens, food markets and community advocacy. In 2009, The Stop opened The Green Barn, a sustainable food production and education centre with a 3,000-square-foot greenhouse, commercial kitchen, classroom, sheltered garden and composting facility. School visits and an after-school program offer hands-on opportunities for children to learn about the food system.

Underlying all of The Stop’s efforts is the view that food should be a basic human right.

Thanks for all the replies...a lot of research to do and I appreciate you sharing your experiences thus far!

I wouldnt advise anyone to work illegally either , and its only experience for Provincial nominee's I guess , and I understand it was from an email sent around the work place, so its not actually legal at all LOL .

All newspapers are full of crap ;)

Does anyone know of a site or place to find volunteer opportunities in Newfoundland?
Also, can we take like say a course if it is shorter than 6 months or would we get in trouble for that?

And another thing I was thinking about painting pictures and then later selling them. Would it be alright for me to paint them and have my husband or his mom receive the money for it? If not I will just go ahead and do the pictures anyway and then wait until I get AIP and OWP to try and sell them then.
